Motivation.

Sadly, I lack it. I am uninspired in pretty much everything I do - especially school work, unfortunately, and it's going to lead to me failing. If I could motivate myself to actually do my work, I'd get on a lot better at school. So, NSG, how do you motivate yourselves? How do you force yourself to do those things you really can't be arsed to do, but you know you have to do?

Same problem as regards school.

I wonder if I will do much work tomorrow.

I have someone threaten to paddle my ass if I don't get it done.

Sounds familiar...

Simple answer - I don't. I'm sitting here replying to you and playing chess while I should be cleaning the bathroom, tidying my room, applying for jobs and cooking dinner. Sadly, I'm just lazy.

I think my problem is I get sidetracked too easily. I mean, I've started cleaning/tidying and I'm searching for jobs, but I just keep coming back to the computer. Or, more specifically, NS.

That doesn't really help, does it? Sorry. :p

try to set a realistic goal for yourself and work towards it. ;)

All of these problems could be solved if any of us could manage to turn off our damn computers.

*drums fingers*

But that isn't going to happen, is it?

yeah, realistically, goals should be easy. like, today i will get off the couch. when you've accomplished that, you can be more ambitious and include going to the bathroom, etc.

Well, when your education is increasingly centred around PCs, it's far easier to become distracted. A lot of my schoolwork is done with interactive whiteboards now. Basically, I sit and copy. All day. It's hardly very good.

Let's put it this way - I should be doing AS coursework worth 30% of my English Language course right now.

I'll get 'round to it at abour 3am, mind.

Oh, and a lack of motivation's also a sign of depression, so if you can (being bipolar myself, I know how hard it can be!), then try and do something you enjoy so as to get yourself in the mood for doing some work for a bit, then take another break, and do some more etc. etc.

*points and laughs slightly, as I'm doing 3 languages, Modern History and English, so I don't have to bother with science*

The scientific analysis is in English Language. Method, conclusion, results, the whole shbang.

Doing 5 AS levels is pretty impressive, though!

i'm exactly the same and i've yet to discover any way to motivate myself even by now in my last year of uni. i have a presentation to research and write for tomorrow, an essay for next week and a 12 thousand word dissertation to research and write in 5 weeks. and i can't start them. i'm screwed.

you have someone who rewards you for doing nothing  :D

I am not motivated to do half of the things I do, motivation is for sissies, we do what needs to be done.

In fact, that's written on my wall, I have it framed and matted, and written in beautiful black bold letters

We do what needs to be done.

The dissertation will be fine. I wrote mine (only 10000 words, mind) in a week, with much of the 'research' being from Wikipedia. The proper research took me two trips to London and a week spent in the university library.

A big fat 'fail' at the end of a three year, £6000 degree course is damn good motivation for getting work done.

I took the computer out of my room, took it to my sister´s room, and stoped using it so much.

When the computer was in my room, it usually was on 24/7, either playing or downloading.

I have a serious problem of game adiction :D Give me a good game, and I lose the notion of time. That really hindered all my motivations. Man, I cant say how glad I am to be old, and never playing WoW. I played Ultima Online and got really adicted to it for 2 to 3 years.

Nowadays I barely play anymore, which is a shame, but I cant control myself.

It's too much. I was an idiot. Plus I'm on the Students' Union as Welfare, Equal Ops and Environmental Officer, and on the exec of an Area NUS group.

Still, my fault, really.

The very reason why I do bad in school, or not as well as I could be. Normally I wait until the last minute and do my work half assed. It works out regardless.

I just want my degree so I can get a slightly more meangiful job that pays decently.
