Next leader of New Labour

In answer to Celtlund's 'vote for democratic candidate' thread I ask, regardless of your actual political leanings, who would you like to see as the next leader (and most likely next prime minister of the UK) of the Labour Party?
I'll put a poll up with a few candidates but feel free to choose random backbenchers as well.
I, for example, would love to see Jeremy Corbyn running the country....

I'm backing McDonnell. To the hilt.
If John Reid takes over, I'll move. Far, far away. But, in answer, I'd have to say Gordon Brown, simply because he's a lesser evil.

I hate Reid. Personally, I think he's not fit for purpose. (Sorry, bad joke).
I'd go for Brown. Not a great choice, but I prefer him over the others. I'd rather he won the election than the tories - but then I'd rather dead parrots took office than tories. Or even the Lib Dems.
Actually, I quite like the Lib Dems.

Another for McDonnell here. And I do believe I will still have a vote in the election of the next leader of the Labour Party. At least I think my membership will still be valid in the summer. So, HAH, my vote actually counts. :)

Why not Margaret Beckett? I think in a leadership contest she'd do better than McDonnell, Miliband (who I think said he won't run for leader(?)), Reid (I'd bloody hope so, anyway) or Johnson (ditto).
Brown will probably get it though.

I'm quite a fan of the Lib Dems as well. I just turned 18, and the Scottish elections in May will be my first election. I'll be voting for the Lib Dems and the SSP.
From what I've gathered from political commentators and others, the Lib Dems have a lot to gain in the next few years. People are increasingly disenchanted with the Labour Party due to the Iraq War in part, as well as theie amount of corruption, but they also see that Cameron has next to no substance as a political figure.
Menzies Campbell, while old and obviously not particularly charismatic. unlike Kennedy, he has some reasonable policies and is generally a good politician.
Jack Straw.
Tell me your joking. Please.

I find it offensive that Gordon Brown or John Reid could be Prime Minister when they represent scottish constinuencies.
Not that I have anything against Scotland, I love the place, but John Reid can make decisions that effect England Only - despite England having no say in whether he remains as an MP. The same will be true of Gordon.
I'd love to join in, but since I don't know anything about any of these candidates, I'm wondering if we could all get a brief lowdown on them, just for future reference for everyone.

I would rather they would all drown at sea, then again I live in the countryside so I’m VERY biased. Voting for the lib dems is a wasted vote and Cameron seems to be an anti-Tory, strange for the leader. Then again its like the scotch lad said on mock the week "The new symbol for the conservative party is the tree, but if you look closely you can see an asylum seeker hanging from the branches."
How do you mean?
You ACTUALLY WANT Jack Straw to be Prime Minister? This country would go to hell in a handbasket.

You still haven't said what's wrong with him, or at least what makes him stand out from the rest of those lunatics.

Nearly went straight for Brown there, until I realised it said "should" not "will".
Brown has messed up (though we probably won't notice for a few years), and the Home Office needs some stability, so not Reid either.
Ruth Kelly, perhaps?
But then I'm only saying that 'cos she's female.

If you want a woman, I'd say Margaret Beckett is much better qualified. Maybe even Patricia Hewitt. That woman talks a lot of sense (some crap as well, but then she's a politician).
I'd like it to be David Miliband but it'll be Brown
Brown. Best (Only) chocie really.

Like it isn't already.
I only voted Brown because that's what probably will happen unfortunately. He's a fat twat end.

It'll be Brown, but I'd rather have McDonnell. To be pedantic, though, McDonnell Isn't New Labour.
You still haven't said what's wrong with him, or at least what makes him stand out from the rest of those lunatics. I have heard that he takes political limpness to a level not taken by the longest earthworm.
