Republican primary. Vote

If the Republican primary were held today, which of the candidates would you vote for. I'll do one for Democrats as well, then in a week or so we will have the Presidental election.

He's thinking about running and one of the latest polls shows him with about 9%.
I wouldn't vote for him.

Although a lot of people don't agree with his views AT ALL, Gingrich is strangely a really good political analyst when you see him on shows..

And on this side you're missing, at the very least, Tom Tancredo, Duncan Hunter and Mike Huckabee.

Have any of them announced yet? I probably shouldn't have included Gengrich because he hasn't announced yet, but it's to late to correct that now. :(

All three of them have. Huckabee talked about it on The Daily Show, that bastion of liberalism.

Speaking as a Democrat, the Republican candidate who scares me the most is Mike Huckabee. He's got the evangelical cred to make the base happy, but he's got the folksy populism to appeal to independents and undecided voters. he talks the economic equality and bi-partisanship game very well and since he was a Governor and not a Senator, he doesn't have to deal with the Iraq War issue as much.

Fortunately, he doesn't have much money or name recognition, so he'll likely be swamped by either McCain or Giuliani.

I think it is important that anyone who votes in the Republican or Democratic primary needs to at least put in one comment to keep these 2 threads going. Very exciting stuff..

Yeah Mike Huckabee does remind me of Regan in that way. All smiles and great communication with the average middle class, and rural working class voter, while masking his really hard right and conservative views and policies.

Though out of the current crop of nominees for the Republican's, Brownback (he did say he was definitely running right, not just speculating) scares me more just for vehement right wing nuttery.

No no no no no no no! *shivers in disgust* Don't include him in the poll! No! Nonononono! *shivers again*

Out of these choices, Guliani. He's the only one I've not seen trying to court the base Republican vote as of late, as Romney has been proving with that interview with George Stephanapolis that my parents were watching and I caught part of.

From the poll results so far and the number of views it appears we have more Democrats on NS than Republicans. That could skew the Presidental Vote next week.

Actually, he has been. He's already shifted his abortion position in a number of interviews well away from a pro-choice stance and said he'd nominate Supreme Court justices in the mold of Samuel Alito.

As opposed to what, a Republican skewing? Would that be better for you? (Honest question.)

My guess is Celtlund wants something closer to a 50-50 split, which he won't get here, but will probably be close to the case in 2008.

Voted for Multiple Choice Mitt. He's the one Republican I know who can't lose. All the others are trash, from what I'm seeing right now, but they still have a chance of winning. If the Republicans are going nominate only Flip-floppers and far-righties this time around, I'd rather that they nominate ones that can't win, I suppose.

True. It won't work out that way here nor will it work in the real election. In any case this will be an interesting exercise. I can't vote in the primary because we have a closed primary in OK, but if someone like Richardson wins the Democratic nomination I'd definatly take a close look at him. He may be that "fresh face" the FOX poll was talking about the other day.

Impossible, unfortunately. Still, we'll see what happens come election day here on NationStates General.

...hmm...should some of us start campaigning for the various candidates, to try to influance the vote?

The reason why I chose him is because he at least seems to understand that the state cannot truly promote the family, but rather twists and distorts it into an authoritarian mess (esp. with conservatives focusing on the nuclear family to the exclusion of the extended family.) And the Contract with America was at least somewhat libertarian. I don't like Giuliani because he's pro-choice/abortion/whatever the hell it is, McCain isn't at all libertarian, and I don't know anything about Romney.

not really, considering the choices, I also feel he is the lesser of the evils.

while I am tending to lean towards Giuliani. I don't think he's got the experience to deal with international treaties and foriegn affairs.

Yes, he was not on the FOX poll I used for this election. In other words, he didn't even have 7% of the national poll.

Man, just like the real poll this poll is close between Giuliani and McCain.

George W. Bush again.

That's true, having only been elected once, he might be able to find a loophole that lets him run again.

Or hell, if there isn't one, let him run again. Always great to have a competitor who can't take office. :D

Simple: Sense of humor. He's been on SNL several times. He even played a cab driver bad mouthing 'Friggin Giuliani'. He's even been in drag!
