MILAN, Italy - An Italian judge ordered 26 Americans to stand trial for the kidnapping of an Egyptian imam, setting up the first criminal examination of the CIA's "extraordinary rendition" program.
Italy's former military intelligence chief Nicolo Pollari and his deputy were indicted along with five other Italians in the case, Pollari's lawyer Titta Madia confirmed to AFP.
"We are disappointed but confident that testimony will show General Pollari's opposition to any illegal activity," he said.

So are the CIA Agents actually going to be brought in and put on trial? Or is this going to end with America saying "Uh uh, uh uh! I'll do what I want!"
Most likely the latter.
Edit: Cool! Time travel!

London won't show up.
A major [UK] criminal investigation into alleged corruption by the arms company BAE Systems and its executives was stopped in its tracks...
Lord Goldsmith consulted the prime minister, the defence secretary, foreign secretary, and the intelligence services, and they decided that "the wider public interest" "outweighed the need to maintain the rule of law".

Blair is not a likely candidate. As a result of this the UK intelligence services are startingly resent the Blair government quite severely. They feel that they that the intelligence they have produced and continually been misrepresented. Like Iraq WMD 45 minute claim, and now this - contrary to earlier insistences, Sir John Scarlett, the head of the foreign intelligence service, never warned ministers that the Saudis would withdraw help in the war on terror and sever security links with the UK.Blair is corrupt, conniving bastard and I want to seem him sent down for a long time.

Also, note:

The Italians have even been so generous as to have appointed defense counsel. The lawyers have yet to meet their clients, however, and are conducting a "defense in the dark". I think that goes like "Did too. Did not. Did too. Did not..." until one side or the other gives in and goes home.

*Ahem*
Well, clearly this is just a sign that Italy is full of terrorist sympathizing liberal communists. In fact, this should be considered a declaration of war, and met with the US's full nuclear might.
You might think that that's too harsh, or just plain crazy. But consider this. Italy.
I'll mark the emphasis for you. Italy. That's right, Italy begins with an I. Do you know what else begins with an I? Iran! And Iraq! And improvised explosive device!

If the CIA cut its agents out to dry like that, they'd never get any field operatives to ever want to work for them again. Getting arrested in country while they were doing it is one thing, but if they are elsewhere and compelled to go back, they'd never get another field agent.

To understand these are basically soldiers in comparision and that the ones who issued the orders, do not think Bush ordered this directly then you are a , so you have to understand in comparision, though my example is pretty bad, it bears the same credendience.

Hey man, can we cool the nationalism please. I was simply stating that these people are criminals who violated International Law, and deserve under the Law to be prosecuted as such, the fact that they work for a state makes it worst, not better. If they abscond then it's proves their guilt all the more.

I see someone here does not know how politics works at all. Not a problem. Its understandable. Even the Socialists played this game well and instead of jail time, agents were exchanged.
