Dear God, what is wrong with me?!?
I am going on around 48 hrs since I last was asleep. I want to SLEEP!!! But for some odd reason, my body is not getting tired. I have tried a million different things to fall asleep. But nothing is working. I am going to the Doc tommorrow to get some pills I guess, but in the mean time, what should I do? I don't want to end up dying, after all, and like I said its impossible for me to fall asleep. Im so scared :(
Try making yourself yawn. You could trick yourself into feeling tired.
But anyway, yeah, you're not alone. Note the time here in the good old Central Time Zone.

Have you tried closing your eyes, lying down, not giving up, hitting yourself on the head?

Tylenol PM works, and it's not addictive like sleeping pills.

Or better yet, you could pick up some Anafranil first.
Trust me on that one. And trust WYTYG. *nods emphatically*

Yeah, its 2 am here as well. Like I said, i have tried everything, yawning, hot shower, fapping :p (TMI i know), music, no music, fan on and off.. everything..I even took some benadryl, which normally knocks me out cold, and i am still awake.
I think i figured out my problem. Last night i was drink alot of purple grape juice. Evidently that leads to iron reduction, and evidently a lack or iron is seen in many insomnia patients...
but it doesn't help me out now :(

Now see, I experience the same thing when I pull an all nighter or three. Once you get past the initial tiredness, you seem to have an energy reserve that activates, and you can keep going for hours more.

Try getting out of bed, exercising for about an hour, and letting yourself become naturally tired. I've found that often when I feel like I can't sleep, it's because my energy level and my sleep cycle are out of sync, so burning off the excess energy lets me restore the balance.
I also like some hot decaf tea.

Try Melatonin. It's an herbal sedative with no side effects that is impossible to OD on, and only costs like $3 a bottle.

Do you reckon they sell it at Wal Mart?

It is possible that the problem is caused by the body's 'internal clock' falling out of sync, in which case you can adjust it by avoiding bright lights for 90 minutes before going to bed and opening blinds etc in the morning as well as getting plenty of exercise during the day, making sure not to become dehydrated.
I'm just speaking from personal experience, a couple of years ago I wasn't getting tired until morning, then had trouble staying awake through the day. It sounds like you have something completely different.
I don't want to end up dying, after all, and like I said its impossible for me to fall asleep. Im so scared :(Lack of sleep is unlikely to kill you. The few reported instances where someone has died when going without sleep for a long time (two weeks or so) it was actually due to severe dehydration, afaik.
In any case, as long as you haven't started halucinating yet, you should be fine for the time being. Do something usefull with the extra time and hope the doctor can help you out tomorrow.

There is one solution and one solution only.
Sex, and lots of it. If you're not ready for sleep then, THEN there's problems.

You're not bipolar, are you? It happens to those of us who are periodically. No need of sleep frequently=manic episode coming up.

1.Alcohol. By far healtier than pills.
2.Sex. By far more enjoyable than pills.
3.Food. By far better tasting than pills.
4.Try to read the Deuteronomy.

1) Do not consume caffeine - it is a stimulant. Many drinks such as coffee, coka cola, lucozade (very strong, effects can last for up to 24 hours), and red bull contain caffeine. Just read the ingredients of any drink you consume.
2) Do not consume food with a high sugar content if you want to sleep. While sugar is not as potent as caffeine it acts as an immediate source of energy therefore giving you an immediate stimulant effect.
3) If you are suffering for cold or flu or another ailment with similar symptoms then inability to sleep can be a common symptom. In this case I would advise that you seek medication that can reduce these symptoms, as well as make you feel sleepy.
4) Some drugs or medicines have unintended side effects on some people. Maybe you are having trouble sleeping because you have been taking some other medication. Also, I believe that tobacco and other legal smoking substances can act as stimulants for some people. If you are smoking any of these things than you should consider giving up smoking them.
5) You may have trouble sleeping if you are feeling either too hot or too cold.
6) Try sitting up and reading a book for some time. You may start to feel sleepy. That worked with me.
7) Also, I heard that a small quantity (not too much) of alcohol can help some people get to sleep. I wouldn't be sure because I don't drink alcohol. (We are Irish Catholics, and we take our religion seriously)
8) And lastly, your body may become restless if you don't do much physical activity. When I took up running and weight training I found getting to sleep a lot easier.
I wouldn't be sure because I don't drink alcohol. (We are Irish Catholics, and we take our religion seriously)You don't take your Irishness as seriously? ;)

How dare you claim to be Irish and state that you don't drink in the same sentence?! Arthur Guinness is spinning in his grave!
EDIT:Also, you fail because your religion has nothing against drinking. They serve wine in church FFS.

"Doctor, I've been reading about the symptoms on the internet, and I'm sure I have hypochondria! Is there any cure?"
Get off NSG, fool. Turn the damn computer off.

No it doesn't. Tylenol PM fails at everything. It doesn't work as a sleep aid and it sure as hell doesn't work at relieving even a headache.

I've heard that the recorded record of someone going without sleep is 11 days. Don't worry about it until you approach that magical number.
Also, you might have the plague. Occasionally one of its first symptoms is insomnia. Do you have any mysterious lumps?

Down at your local mine, I'd assume.
Oh and in terms of sleeping - drink about half a pint of gin. And try reading JRR Tolkein's "Silmarilion". It's possibly the dullest thing in the universe, ever.
