Back in April, I was offered and accepted the job as managing editor of The Prince George's Sentinel (http://www.thesentinel.com). Now, I've been offered and have accepted a job as a copy editor at Stars and Stripes (http://www.stripes.com). I make a big jump from a weekly community newspaper to a daily paper with a worldwide reach.
I didn't expect to leave in less than a year, but the money difference is just too great for me to pass up.

Ahh, good 'ol Stars and Stripes. I live less than an hour's drive from two Marine Corps bases, a NADEP, and an Air Force base, and I STILL can't find a copy on anyone's shelves.

Thanks! Indeed, the production manager even sent an e-mail to our boss extolling my virtues. It led the CEO and publisher to both try to scramble to see if they could get me to change my mind and to offer me a slight increase in salary.
Then again, the money at the new place is just too much for me to turn down.

"Stars and stripes"? It's like a parody that isn't.
In any case, hope you enjoy yourself.

Wow, I totally remember you getting that first job. I think I made some comment on the local award they had gotten or something to that effect.
I'm not sure if that makes me sad or not.
Well, congrats again.

That's one of the things I'm happiest about... that I'm able to look ahead to life after what I've been through.
Now I'm going to have to cook up new business cards...

The Stars and Stripes always drove me insane because I'd find several spelling errors every day. The rampant ignorance of military terms also drove me nuts, due to the paper's intended audience.

Isn't it published by the Army?

Hate to tell ya, but the only people who have heard of Stars and Stripes are those who watch M*A*S*H.

Nah,they're not the only ones. Other people have heard of it too, including people like Rubiconic Crossings and myself, who grew up actually reading it.

Well, New England's only part of the US because it failed to secede from the union in the 1800s.
