Rudy G.

Why do many republicans hold him in such a high light? Don't they remember that before 9-11 he was just a do nothing mayor of New York with a bad prostate and an even worse marriage. So why is that this terrible former mayor of NYC is getting so much approval from the right? Did his association with 9-11 really give him that much spot light?

Well, I doubt I know any more about recent New York City government than you do, so don't go off feeling like that. I'd just heard that he had been successfully tough on crime and had managed the city's finances well. Not to mention he's one of the more socially enlightened Republicans...

If anybody wants to disabuse me of this, feel free. :p

Short answer: Yes.

Longer answer: It's not really fair to call Giuliani a do-nothing mayor, though just how much he had to do with the NYC cleanup is up for debate. The rising economy helped him out a lot, but if Clinton gets to take credit for that period, then so does Giuliani, I guess. But in the end, post- 9/11 no one remembers that Giuliani's approval numbers in NYC before the attacks were in the mid to high 30s--Bush territory after a disastrous war. They just remember him on the tv when Bush and Cheney were nowhere to be found.

Look at Hitler he was true natural leader, and and look what happened.

Uh... *Checks rulebook* no. Godwins need someone to be CALLED Hitler or said to be Hilter, not a historical mention.

Because he's a thin-skinned authoritarian asshole who goes after people personally over even minor differences of opinion. Then there was the way he handled the many police brutality cases while he was Mayor--let's just say that the cops got away with murder a few times and he was doing everything but applauding openly.

Hmm... odd that this hasn't been born out by the press yet.

At least we know 2008 will be an interesting election year...

EDIT: This (http://www.theonion.com/content/node/29503) the kind of thing you're talking about? If so, then wow.

Well, duh; I did look up the article myself. I'd just always thought that it was more Onion absurdity rather than potent political satire.

the story sounds like it's taking off the diallo murder - when 4 cops unloaded their guns (and then reloaded) into a non-threatening unarmed guy.

edit: yeah, the dates work out about right
