Women of NS, do you prefer average men?
Men of NS, do you believe this?

I think that studies like this should not be performed. Most heterosexual men are able to find mates, regardless of status. Similarly, most heterosexual women find mates, again regardless of status. So, I honestly think studies like this mean absolutely jack.

How many dudes aren't gonna bother to speak up on this one, for fear of being typecast? :D

I'd speak up, but I have no idea what to say.

I've read that studies show that women are attracted to supermasculine guys while fertile, and are attracted to chumps (i.e., the rest of us) for the rest of the month.

*shrug* They're probably wrong. Or not.

why wouldnt the average woman prefer the average man?

i dont want a man who is way more rich than i am used to. i dont want a man who is extremely handsome, famous, successful.

i want a man whose life fits my own so that i dont have to make big changes in myself just to be with him.

Sounds right to me ... or at least, a rationalization that makes me feel better since it matches what i perceive to be the pattern. *nods emphatically*

Actually I prefer nerdy men. I'm not really sure what average is supposed to mean here.

I learned that in evolutionary psychology class in undergrad. We're also less likely to use birth control while ovulating, apparently. (Not me...but I don't consider myself to be average.)

And any other valentines that weren't ALREADY rolling in, begin now.

That makes sense, for reasons that are both obvious and somewhat icky.

There's nothing average about you that i've ever encountered. You rock.

As well you should. Nerdy men are intelligent men who would know how to rasie a child as well as possible.

I picked my husband because he wasn't "average" but I paid more attention to his work ethic than his career so I guess I don't count.

But if we didn't perform stuies like this, what else would major news and scientific organizations report on around Valentine's Day? You don't honestly expect them to report real news and scientific breakthroughs when there is a seasonal human interest angle out there, just waiting to be plastered across millions of TV and computer screens.

Horay for baseless generalizations and self-rationalization.

"Nerdy men" could also be weak and poor male role models. Or they could be just fine parents.

This whole conversation is rather ridiculous

BS!

Oh for Christ's sake...

Yes, TPE, we all know you cannot get laid and have absolutely no luck with women whatsoever. Enough already.

The thing you quoted as "BS" says "most," which is quite obviously different than "all." Even if it said 99.999% could find mates and you were that .001%, it would still not be "BS."

What exactly is an "average" man? Or an "average" woman, for that matter?

You tell me, and I'll tell you whether I prefer them or not.
