i just payed my electricity bill online. but the payment confirmation page didn't load after i put in my card detail. the site says i still owe the money but should i assume they've got the money but don't know it yet? or should i try the process again? i really can't afford to pay this bill twice. but i also can't afford to not pay it. stupid internets

Don't pay it again right away. Allow at least a couple of hours for the payment to post, and if it doesn't, call the power company and talk to billing. If you wind up paying it twice, even inadvertently, you won't get the cash back. You'll get a credit toward the next bill, which will be nice then, but in the meantime you're living on ramen and Worcestershire sauce. ;)

Call the company in question and demand satisfaction. Do not attempt to pay the bill again.

Yes, because if you pay again it will not be refunded. It will be 'credited'... bu tthey forget about 'credits' and bill you anyways. I've been fighting a $299 internet bill every month because the damn ISp thinks i have T1 instead of cable... (To my knowledge cable companies dont deal in T1... isnt that over the phone lines like DSL?)...
Anyways they are stupid bastards who will rip you every chance they get...
Refuse to pay it again

Yeah, I'd definitely call them and deal with a person.

Or a well made voice recognition programme.

Or a well made voice recognition programme.

Which is sometimes better than a real person. :D

1 - do you have a confirmation email?

2 - Contact their customer services to confirm

3 - If in doubt contact your card company. You will get refunded as in the UK CC's have protection against fraud. If you are using a debit card it is different and will be up to the banks own 'use policy' as to how they deal with it

Advice - always type in the URL of the payment site. Never use a link.

yeh, i thought as much. i've just delayed paying this for too long and i've got a window now where i can devote time to sorting out my finances and then they go and screw it up. argh! so frustrating!

yeh it was the real site. i typed it out from the paper bill. i haven't got a confirmation email as yet, but in my experience these things can often take hours even when they say a couple of minutes.

seems like the only option is to telephone... i hate telephoning.

go to the website of your credit card statement and check if a charge has posted.

whats the deadline? i'd wait until tomorrow morning ...if you've not had anything then call them...chances are that the payment system is still crunching...

if it needs to be paid today....then call them...and tell them that you paid and that their online system sucks and they should call me ;) LOL

I'm sure we could get a NSG IT team together...

errr...anyone know oracle? or sql?

I can do the service delivery and support....and the infra....but not apps...

yeah...I can understand that...

I recently finished on a navision project that was using sql as the backend database...a touch over a Tb in size...largest navision system in the world apparently..well according to MS. What a mess. :shudder: of course the company rejected all the MS recommendations and their supplier recommendations....put the entire thing on a single server that was hideously underspecified...and never did any house keeping...now they want...well need to upgrade to 2005 and are basically in deep doo doo coz no one actually understands how the db was structured...

don't ask for documentation...I did and the CIO's eyes glazed over...

:headbang:

/sorry for the minor rant....its just things like that really piss me off because there is no need...its just lazy working

Without meaning you, per se, I think we should encourage suicide bombings of banks.

I went in to cash a check a couple days ago, presented my passport, and the clerk asked me for a second form of ID...
