What are favorite RPG's over the years? Are you a Final Fantasy fan? Or perhaps The Elder Scrolls is more your style? Do you hail the 3D revolution? Or do you have a "sprite-only" policy? Basically, thown down a top ten list of the best RPG's you've played and the console they came out for.
1. Final Fantasy VIII - Playstation
2. Breath of Fire III - Playstation
3. Final Fantasy VII – Playstation
4. Final Fantasy X – Playstation 2
5. Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter – Playstation 2
6. Chrono Trigger – Super Nintendo
7. Grandia – Playstation
8. Final Fantasy Tactics – Playstation
9. Shin Megami Tensei: Nocturne – Playstation 2
10. Golden Sun – GameBoy Advance
Obviously a certain dominant franchise from Squaresoft/Square-Enix dominates my list, getting 4 out of the 10 spots, including 3 of the top 4, however there is ALWAYS a special place in my heard for the Breath of Fire series, with III being a masterpiece in my nostalgic opinion and Dragon Quarter being an oft-unsung good time with a story far greater than most "mainstream" games. Chrono Trigger is an undenable classic of the 16-bit era, and Grandia holds a special place in my heart as well. Final Fantasy Tactics is so unlike the other games of the series that it is scary, however the unique battles and the job system, as well as the story of religious betrayal made it a great time. Shin Megami Tensei, another not-so-popular RPG, is great in its application, and I have to commend Atlus on their Digital Devil Saga games as well. Finally, Golden Sun was, without a doubt, the most fun I ever had on a handheld console, and is an experience I'm still waiting for my PSP to match. Luckily, Crisis Core: Final Fantasy VII and a Final Fantasy Tactics port are on the horizon.
