I clicked on this story (http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/17134232/) largely out of curiosity--I didn't know anything about Rep. Norwood and hadn't heard anything about a Congressperson being ill. It turns out he had lung cancer and it metastasized and he'd left Washington a couple of months ago to enter hospice care, so this wasn't a surprise to those close to him.
But here's the thing I found most interesting:
Norwood won two Bronze Stars as a combat dentist in the Vietnam War.
Damn. That's pretty wild, to win Bronze Stars as a dentist, and no, I'm not being snarky here. That makes me want to hear those stories, and I hope his family publicizes it in the coming weeks.

A combat dentist, was he? I do remember the story of the Painless Pole in M*A*S*H*, and that was Korea, so I'm not surprised. I saw something the other day on him leaving DC to go to a hospice. Rest in peace, Mr. Norwood.

i didnt know there was such a job as combat dentist and anyone earning 2 bronze stars had to be pretty brave. i would be very interested in hearing how he got them.

Beats the ever-loving shit out of me.
I don't know either but if he could do that, he should get a medal.

Never heard of him, but R.I.P.
Wait, was he the one Colbert interviewed? Calling him a "Georgia Peach" and confusing him greatly? Im sad if its that guy, because he's got one of my favorite interview quotes of the colbert report.
Edit: No, thats Rep. Jack Kingston of Georgia, but RIP all the same.
