Okay. Background so people know what is going on. Boston is one of the major hockey hubs in the US. Starting in 1952 (and only missing 1953), the four major hockey schools of Boston (Boston University, Boston College, Northeastern University, and Harvard University) compete. This is more important to the schools than winning the national title. The competition gets the largest audience of any college hockey competition except the "Frozen Four" finals.

Boston University has just won their 28th championship (just over 50% of the total). The current joke is that the competition should be renamed The BU Invitational. A famous quote says that "If you want to play in the Beanpot, you have to come to one of four universities. If you want to win, you go to BU".

So anyway, this is me celebrating my schools win. Congrats to Curry for getting MVP, and we'll miss ya next year.

As for a focus for this thread, either stick to the beanpot, or discuss any local sport rivalries that there are (preferably not the major league ones that everyone already knows about...I'm talking smaller competitions that are more important)

Ah, college hockey, the forgotten NCAA sport. Really is sad, though. Collegiate rivalries seem to be taken to the next level in Hockey. You should see the MSU-UM games. That gets really, really nasty.

BU and BC share similar names, are on the same street, share the same subway line, and are similar academically. Also, both are huge hockey schools. Considering BU no longer has a football program, we definatly take it out on the ice.

Nobody has yet mentioned one of the fiercest (and least talked about) rivalries in college hockey--Colorado College and the University of Denver. The Tigers and the Pioneers have always hated each other.

I live in Colorado Springs, so I am, of course, a Tigers fan. But if you drive far enough north on I-25, there is an invisible line somewhere in Douglas County--and suddenly, you're in Pioneer Country.

Watching a CC-DU game is as close as you're going to get to one of those old-school soccer riots that they used to have in South America.

So, while we insult other schools: The only redeeming quality of DU is the fact that Chipotle was founded there. Satan is a DU graduate (political science, class of 1974), and the newest building on campus is the "Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Center for Jewish Studies."
