Was it Gran Turismo? Good album.

As for the original question - Refused, T(I)NC, Meshuggah.

Sahara Hotnights, The Hives and Cult of Luna are pretty good as well.

No, no, no, you've all been fooled by the conspiracy. All those bands are actually Finnish as the Swedes have yet to become advanced enough to discover music.

The Haunted are okay too, but not among my favourites. The Hives put on a great live show, but I don't care much for their recorded stuff.

There are probably others I didn't know were Swedish.

I agree about Emperor, they're awesome. As for Ulver, are you talking about old or new? I like their old stuff, but I can't stand their techno stuff.

As for Arch Enemy and In Flames, both are very good. In Flames' older stuff was better than their newer, whereas in my opinion the last three Arch Enemy albums are the ones worth owning. I prefer Arch Enemy to In Flames though, I really like their stuff. Not nearly as much as the Norwegian black metal I listen to though.

Die Apokalyptischen Reiter are prolly a good example of what's good about German metal. Part death, part speed, part melodic, part viking & all fucking brilliant.
Odrörir is/was (dunno if they're still playing) pure viking metal, but with a strong folk/alternative element - which again is something Germany's damn good at these years. Prolly the most original metal band I've heard.

I listen to doom and stoner mostly, but I like examples from most genres of metal. The only thing I really haven't been able to get into is power metal, and that's a pretty big chunk of the German stuff i've heard.

Die Apokalyptischen Reiter don't seem to do it for me (I think it's the vocals...). Odrörir are weird (wow, they really do have a viking infatuation, don't they?), but seem at least decent judging from the 30 second clips on their site. I'll see if I can find more to make a proper judgement.
