This article is about family cells in a prison in Spain. It gives some of the pros and cons of having such cells.
Some of the pros are the family gets to stay together and bond as a family.
Some or the cons are the affect it could have on the child's development and the trama of seperation when the child becomes 3 years old and has to leave to live with relatives.
What do you think?

I didn't read the article, but if it's what it sounds like I agree.

Yes yes yes.

The first few years are critical when it comes to bonding with parents, and it gives the parents themselves good incentive to rehabilitate in order to come out of prison and reintegrate.

I'm not too sure about this... I think at that age, toddlers don't realise that the environment they live in is not "normal". So I doubt it harms them in any way.
The question is, at some stage the kid will need to start having a normal live nevertheless, and if the parent has to serve an extensive prison sentence, they will have to live through separation one way or another.
The question is if it's better to let the child go through that sooner or later...
Most psychologist will tell you that the first 3-4 years are the most important years for a child to develop relationships and bonds with family members. A disturbance, like the permanent absense of a parent the child got used to, in that periofd can result in trauma and serious relationship issues later in life.

Personally, I think it's a good idea. As good as it gets under the circumstances.

Yes, much better they be foisted off on (perhaps unwilling) relatives, or the state...which ends up happening after a few years anyway.

It's not all that uncommon you know...at least these conditions are more humane than the situation many children find themselves in when parents are imprisoned.

Okay, I read part of it. I'm not sure whether or not it's a great idea.

I don't see a problem with it, as long as the children themselves see the reality of crime and won't end up on the same path as their parents.

no no no, we must do everything we can to make sure that people have no ties outside of prison, and nothing to help reintegrate them into society when they get out. duh.

Or we could just, y'know, stop people breeding altogether.

No, its much better to insure that children adapt to prison as their "natural" environment and then dump them out into the world. Especially if you can manage to add the childhood trauma of being removed from the parents and peers they've lived with for their first 3 years.

I'd vote for that...as a temporary measure anyway...until we can prevent the daily 30,000 deaths of children from disease, starvation and malnutrition.

Or at least make them wait to start cranking otu babies until one partner has gotten out of prison.
