Should I bother...?

My bf and I had a discussion about Valentine's day and he said that he doesn't particularly believe in it, so I said "Oh well then I don't have to make you a card :P" and he said I could do whatever I wanted.

I generally like making cards and I am looking for more excuses to procrastinate... but he didn't seem to enthused about the idea.

Then what's the problem?

Make the card and then staple it to his forehead. Tell him that that is what love is all about, Charlie Brown.

I dunno, I'm just not sure if I want to put in the effort if he's not going to care.

Is this just an excuse for him not to offer to take you to dinner/make dinner/buy flowers?

That's a horrible thing to say. It's totally an excuse and a cop-out out of having to do anything for you!

But... I thought your were looking for excuses to procrastinate? I'm confused.

I say you buy him chocolates that way he will share them (at which point you eat all the best ones) win/win :p

Or you could do what I’m planning and have valentines the day after so that hopefully everything will be cheaper

youve had the discussion with him and you know him pretty well...

if you make him a nice card and he gives you nothing, how bad will you feel?

if you make him a nice card and he gives you nothing, how bad will HE feel?

if you stay with this guy a long time and you never get anything for valentines day, how bad will you feel?

think about it. you dont want a nice gesture like a hand made card end up being a bad thing; you dont want to feel like you CANT make a valentines card; and maybe you dont want to never get anything for valentines day.

consider youself, your man and what you really want. act accordingly.

If you want to make him one, make one.
If you don't want to make one, don't.

I have to admit I never understood what Valentine's day is supposed to be about in the first place, so my boyfriend's not getting anything. And I don't expect anything, either.

Tell him you were gonna [insert details of his favourite fetish/kink/whatever] all day and all night, but since he doesn't believe in Valentines day you won't bother and/or have already returned the periphals and/or lingerie appropriate to aforementioned fetish/kink/whatever.

That'll learn him.

I think he'll care about the card because it's from you. What he doesn't seem to care too much about is the holiday, which I can understand because it was commercialized and only celebrated because of that--much like most of American holidays--so don't stress too much over it. If you want to make a card, make a card, but don't tell him it's for Valetine's Day, just tell him you made it 'cause you love him. If he STILL doesn't care all that much, then maybe you might want to think about your relationship with him.

I'm a guy and I should add that I would not do this to a wife or girlfriend. Their revenge tactics are not handed back in equal measure.

I'm either fully equipped with chocolates and roses on Valentines Day or I am not in the same three thousand miles that my wife is occupying.

In the latter case I trust you have chocolates and roses upon re-entering the 3000 mile radius.

There can be no re-entry without. At least, not without leaving my bits and pieces behind.

Nah, if I bought him chocolates, he'd probably give them to me since he doesn't like them. :p

I don't think so, he just said that it's silly to have one day dedicated to that sort of behaviour when that sort of behaviour should be happening everyday or something.

He does make me dinner regularly, and I don't really care for flowers as a gift item... they're nice and all, but they die.
