Goodnight and have a Pleasant Tomorrow: WEEKEND UPDATE!

There have been SNL threads on here before, but I'd like one to recall the best of Weekend Update on Saturday Night Live.

There have been many great hosts:
Chevy Chase
Dan Aykroyd
Jane Curtain
Bill Murray
Gilda Radner had some good recurring characters
Dennis Miller
Norm MacDonald
Kevin Nealon
Colin Quinn

My favorite moments would have to be stuff like Chevy Chase's top story being "Generalissimo Francisco Fanco is still dead." This story would then be repeated by Garrett Morris in a spoof of how stations used to have someone in the corner use sign language to repeat the top story. Garrett just yelled at the top of his lungs. (Family Guy recently spoofed this)

Then there is the Jane Curtain, Bill Murray, and Dan Aykroyd years. Dan and Jane had Point Counter-point in which Dan's counter-point would always begin with "Jane you ignorant slut."

Gilda Radner would appear during these years as Emily Litella, a hard of hearing anchor who would mis-report the news because she misheard what the story was. Jane would then yell at her and she would then call Jane a bitch. (The censors freaked the first time) She was better as Rosanne Rosannadanda, a self help peson who spoofed Dr. Joyce Brothers and made fun of New Jersey.

It may now be afternoon, but goodnight and have a pleasant tomorrow.

The original cast was still the best. I haven't seen anyone that can even hold a candle to them. Chevy Chase was certainly the best anchor. The only cast member that I don't recall seeing on the Weekend Update skit was Laraine Newman.

But if you really wanted to see funny, you shoulda seen Laugh-In. "Say Goodnight, Dick".

I liked it when Belushi started ranting about the "luck of the irish."

I used to love Weekend Update when I was a kid, I remember playing with my cousins, and they were all picking their "names"

"I am G.I. Joe"
"I am Shera"
"I am Rosanne Rossannadana" <---- Smunkee

My mom immediately grabbed me by the arm and spanked my butt. She took the TV out of my room after that, because she then knew that was why I was always trying to sleep in on church days...I had been up watching SNL.

Nothing beats SNL. I'm the kind of guy who leaves parties early to make sure I catch it.

Best host of Weekend Update will always be Chevy Chase, though I got to say Seth Myers (the guy currently doing it with Amy Phoeller) is really pulling it off well! Has good delivery for it.

Ehh, I didn't like Tina Fey or Jimmy Fallon or that third chick... Too much expression, not enough dead-panning. IMO, Kevin Nealon and Norm McDonald were the best.
