New Jersey follows California's lead

New Jersey, home to Thomas Edison's lab where the first commercially useful incandescent bulb was made is going to switch to flourescents. California recently decided to pass a similar law. We're getting energy efficient and reducing greenhouse gasses. Yay us.
I think other states should follow this course of action. Let's face it, incandescent bulbs are obsolete technology.

I don't like fluorescents, the light they give off just doesn't seem quite right.

I don't like fluorescents, the light they give off just doesn't seem quite right.I have them in about half the bulbs in my apartment, and they're just fine. The only reason they're not everywhere is because my stupid apartment has specialty bulbs in about half the outlets.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to dock some points for grammar. (You're an English professor! Shame!) ;)
As for banning incandescents, that's fine with me. If you don't like the light from florescents, get over it. That's not a valid reason to continue to use much less efficient sources of light.

What's the problem with my grammar? Reason is singular and so is the verb. Or do you just not like the way I used because there?

Well, that's okay. But incandescents have a certain warmth of light, which flourescents don't.

Use plutonium then. Gives off a nice green glow that turns on radiologists.

I am utterly incapable of forming a strong opinion about this. Too fucking trivial.
Still, it seems to be a step in the right direction.

My heart, it swells with pride for beloved California.

...it's redundent? "The reason is because" is a redundent phrase. Or so I've been told by most of my English teachers.

I don't like fluorescents, the light they give off just doesn't seem quite right.Doesn't seem quite right? Then get another type. There's all manner of different low energy bulbs on the market, many of them specifically emulating the lighting properties of traditional incandescent bulbs.
You can easily get the soft yellow'ish light you're used to, and depending on your location, low energy bulbs of that type may be cheaper than incandescent bulbs. Lasts 10+ times longer as well.

Ah. It's not a grammatical error so much as a stylistic issue, which varies from person to person. I wouldn't use that construction in a formal paper, but I'm more relaxed here at NSG.

I hardly feel that incandescant bulbs are redundant, however fluorescant bulbs are undoubtedly more environmentally desirable, and thus the law is of merit.

I love fluorescents, the light they give off is just quite right.
Good step forward. Now to ban incandescents outright.

Yay! I already spend more time in flourescent lighting than I do in the sun, this is awesome!

It truly does worry me that so many of you are anxious to have the government control what you can and can not do. First, it's no smoking in restaurants, then in any public place. Next, it's the ban on transfat in french fries. Now it's a ban on what kind of light bulbs we can use in the house. As long as it looks like a ban on something that is "good" for us, that's okay. Well, that's exactly the wrong attitude to have.
And, I do use the fluorescent bulbs because I hate to change bulbs. As long as they don't buzz, they're fine.
