Well its that time again, my birthday is nearly here, its on the 18th, and I have no plans, so I am leaving it up to you guys to give me some ideas. Due to school trips and what not, I am actually going to be in Madrid that day.

For my 18th I had a massive drink fest with friends my girlfriend at the time, who had just turned 18 a week before.

For my 21st I went a watched an indie film with my mum and then cried about my childhood.

Many congrats. Personally, I'd try asking to go to a decent restaurant in Madrid to celebrate, and then get drunk and enjoy a night in a hotel with friends. Failing that, have some friends over, or go to a bar. Mine's on the 19th of March, and I'm still not sure about mine really.

We hired a stripper for an 18th in December. Even behind an alcoholic veneer, I was aware she was pushing 40, far from slim, and had a disturbing lack of self-respect.

We went out to a nice restaurant on the waterfront. I got lots of lotto tickets.

The great thing is about clubs is if the girls are ugly you can just leave and not pay.

My suggestion would be to go find a bar and hang out with your friends. Then have a party when you get back home. My 18th birthday happened to be on the second day of freshman orientation at uni. I had to get up early to go take a language placement test, which sucked. My RAs and roommate got me a cake though, and there was a small gathering (I hesitate to call it a party) down in the lounge that night after all the orientation stuff was done. It was actually kind of a cool way to get to know people better. :)

it was kind of a lousy birthday. i didn't really do anything at all. (ok, it was on a monday, not really the most exciting of all days) mostly due to logistics. hopefully tonight will make up for that.

depends on what you like to do. i'm sure Madrid has plenty of opportunities to get pissed and that sort of lark.

if that's not for you then.... something else? see if there's some band playing or something like that. i dunno :confused:


for my 18th i just went out to a big meal with friends to a place where you cook your own food at the table (like an indoor BBQ)... it was fun :)
and about a week later at a friend's 18th i celebrated 'properly' by getting drunker than i've ever been before or since :P

So just plain drinking is a bit typical from my point of view. Then again I don't know Madrid at all so i can't really give you any decent suggestions. Perhaps you could go on a mission measuring things with, say, a banana. I've done that before in a group, and got surprising reactions from strangers. Of course if drinking is you thing, then maybe you should try and see how many pubs you can visit before the stroke of midnight... A bar crawl where you keep a souvenire of every pub (i.e. a coaster). Okay, so those idea suck, but I tried...

I can't remember what I did; my only memory is that somebody mentioned to my English teacher that it was my birthday and the whole class glaringly sang happy birthday to me. you really have to do something out of the ordinary. i suggest getting a group of friends and just roaming the streets. i think funny and memorable things just tend to happen on their own when you do that.

i had a beach party for my 18th which was excellent cuz my house is right by the beach so the alcohol was kept cold and we didn't need a generator for the sound system. for my 21st i had a curry evening then a night on the town (which was good fun althought it ended badly).

A mere day?! Do what I did and spread it out over a week. This week entailed of clubbing, bar crawling, nights in hotel rooms and general hilarity!

My suggestion is that you don't really have to get drunk or get laid... although that would certainly be a plus. Just spend the day with people you love.

The day of my 18th wasn't anything special, just bought some cigars and a lotto ticket. I can say that on New Years about a week before my eighteenth I celebrated to quite a... large extent. Yet I still remember what I did…

I celebrated my 18th by sending in my voter registration and getting my draft card. Of course, my birthday's right after Thanksgiving, so either no one's around or we're back in school getting extra work to compensate for the lost time, so either way I really don't get to have much fun. Plus, it's less than a month before Christmas, so it's a bit like only getting presents once a year. I imagine 21 will be a good birthday for me, and it's coming up (slowly), although I thought the same thing about 18... :(
