I've been using blogger.com since it was blogspot.com, but they recently started requiring users to have a google account. I like google, but requiring me to keep my blog with the same account as my email raised my hackles (call me irrational if you want) and I'm now looking for a new blog server.
Any reccomendations?
I use www.journalcommunity.com. It's pretty friendly. I've been on there 2 years and it rarely crashes and never for long (<12 hours). The staff is pretty active, but not intrusive and there aren't a lot of huge ads interfering with everything.
WordPress (http://wordpress.org/) comes to mind.
I also recall hearing about another blog server that's supposed to be really good, but I can't seem to remember what it's called. :(

Buy a diary.
Hehe. It's kind of hard to cut and paste my national updates into a paper diary, especially when I really have mostly moved on to a "paperless office" and haven't printed anything off in years...

Cool - thanks. Do they have restrictions on what I've been using my blog for? (Keeping a record of daily nation reports and the like.)
Myspace?
Don't kill me.
Don't need to. ;)

The only thing you can't use JC for is advertising, like ebay or amway type stuff. As far as I know.

Cool. Makes it even nicer.

As far as I know, you'd be fine doing that.

A couple of my friends use typepad.com, they say it's better than blogger. not entirely sure whether or not it's free though.

I was under the impression that TypePad was more along the lines of something a professional blogger might use. I don't think it's free, but I'm not sure either.

ah, could be. they were trying to get people to advertise on it. i think it died through neglect though. i remember they had to learn basic html to do stuff with it.

LiveJournal is really pretty decent; I've used it for several years.

I'm a livejournal user, as well. I like it.

There is also Blogger (http://www.blogspot.com), provided by Google, but, I say my first choice above all is WordPress.
The blog link in my siggy uses WordPress. I adore their interface and I like their text editor, as well as the layout. It's so simple, yet you've got so many options, and so many templates available to you.

Reccomending the site I was asking for alternatives to, and for the exact reasons I objected to it? That deserves a special award....
