Well, we have the finals from soccer friendlies: America beat Mexico 2-nil, though it was closer than the score really was. Landin Donovan actually played well (its not the world cup anymore, dude) and, from what i hear from a few of my coworkers, Mexico had a few chances to score but blew them (this guy considers corner kicks opportunities, though)

anyway, portugal beat brazil, england was shut out 1-nil by spain and booed off their home turf (pitch), and ireland edged out a san marino team that has been torn apart 2-1.

America has recently dominated Mexico, so theres no surprise there. Brazil is looking like its becoming even less of a powerhouse in these friendlies, England just... yeah, and Ireland was pretty bad as well.

oh, and the Liverpool team is going to be bought out by Americans and Zidane is thinking about playing soccer in america for the new york team. wow.

Don't forget, understrength Germany 3-1 Switzerland. And Australia 11-0 Taiwan.

That was our Olympic team (under 23s).

Our senior side lost to Denmark 3-1.

actually the NI v SM game was a qualifier....not a friendly.

The England Spain game was atrocious...the ref was beyond amateur.

TCM* is hopeless. So are the FA, PL and the major clubs.

I really do think that we need to return to the days of no subs. Problem is that there is too much money...too many people who see it as a cash cow...and its not.

*gah*

Enlgand played like ass against Spain. I think Joey Barton was spot on with his comments about Gerrard and Lampard.

The US has finally overtaken Mexico, and it's about fucking time. We're finally starting to get a decent crop of talent. We've got a pretty good team now, and the future looks even better.

Brazil's shrinking, I think, not due to a lack of talent, but a change in the style of play. International football seems to be getting more and more physical, and that's just not their style.

And Zidane? Why not? That overrated poof Beckham already signed with the LA Galaxy. The MLS is now well on its way of going the route of the NASL, signing washed-up players from abroad for exorbitant amounts of money. They're too interested in rapid growth, when they should've been sticking with what was working -- a slow, gradual expansion.

Heh....well I'm going to wade in here...

England played yet another totally new formation. It was unbalanced and doomed to fail.

Do you remember Ian Wright? Brilliant club player for Crystal Palace and the Arse...yet never made it in the international games.

I am beginning to think the same is true of Lampard and Gerrard. Then again the fact is that the way England play is not suited to either player. The real issue lies in that we do not have a penetrative midfielder. Well we do but Schoals will not play for England (and I understand way). Lampard is not willing to do the rampaging runs into the box like Schoals because he is also trying to play the creative and holding midfielder...oh...just like Gerrard! And Carrick! *ARGH*

As for our defence...

:headbang:

The only saving grace is that several of the main players are injured like Hargreaves, Owen and Rooney.

The issue is not the players. Its the managers of the England side and the clubs...and the FA also deserve a kicking.

I dunno, the U21 side looked pretty damn good in that second half against Spain. I think with the full-up national side, the issue is more one of conflicting egos of the players, which could still be a problem as the younger batch comes up. The more exposure they get, the bigger their egos are going to be, so more of the same ol' same ol'.

That would be tough considering they're both in two completely different groups.
