The saga began when a man accused of receiving a stolen Xbox 360 contacted Microsoft to register the stolen machine - and to ask for a replacement power cord.

What do you make of this? Does anyone else know some stories about idiots who turn to the life of crime?

I get them all the time at work. (I write for a newspaper)

Probably my all time favourite is a pair of armed robbers who decided to raid an off-licence near a fairly busy city centre.
Their first mistake was their choice of getaway vehicle - a large white van with ladders on the roof and a big, very distinctive, green stripe along the side. Their second mistake was to get lost on the city's one-way system. They then got stuck in traffic, right outside the off-licence they'd just robbed, just after the police showed up.
"Could you describe these two men?"
"Err... yes, there they are."
They both went to jail.

My favourite will always be the criminal who tried to hold up a Washington State gun shop. Upon announcing the holdup, he fired a few shots for effect. The police officers at the counter (making sure no-one bought guns or ammo illegally, I suppose), the clerks and workers (all of whom were probably NRA members), and the customers (who had just bought guns....) all returned fire. Finis.

I don't see where Microsoft did anything wrong. Much as it pains me to say that about Microsoft. They didn't turn over customer records without a warrant, that's pretty standard policy.

my favorite is the young man who robbed the taco bell with a knife because if you use a knife its only a misdemeanor. while tying up the staff in the back somewhere, he took off his ski mask to reveal that he was someone they knew--so they wouldnt be scared.

so they turned him in and *SURPRISE* its just as much a felony to rob a store with a knife as it is with a gun.

jay leno had a video on his show the other night where the robber broke out the lower half of one glass double door, ran in, grabbed the tip jar, turn and ran right into the lower half of the OTHER glass door, dropped the jar and ran off into the night.

Yup, still armed robbery. It's even armed robbery (in the US, at least) if you use a fake gun, so long as people believe it might be real.

from here (http://www.dumbcriminals.com/robberies/dye-another-day/)...

The worst mistake a criminal can make is to make the same mistake again. The worst mistake a criminal can make is to make the same mistake again. The worst mistake a criminal can make…

BROOKLYN, N.Y. (New York Post) — Clenzo Thompson really should get a new career.

The bird-brained bandit was busted for sticking up the same Brooklyn bank twice in three days - and having a dye pack explode in his face both times, cops said.

And this is three years after he robbed another bank but dropped his state ID card while pocketing the cash, sources said.

The New York Post fails to mention some of the other, more bumbling crimes he’s committed such as the time he held up a McDonald’s for some ketchup packets and the napkins and the time he burglarized a bank and left behind an autographed picture of Yakov Smirnoff that read, “To my number one schnozkia, Clenzo who lives at the Upper West Side at 225 25st Apt. 432 just a block east of the Katzenberg Family Deli.”

The good news is he did get the dye paint off of his face. Of course, the sad news is wiping the shame off his face is going to take a little more work.
