What is your favorite Star Trek ship?

Saying the U.S.S. Enterprise would be rather stereotypical, but hey, it's my favorite, so there. :p

I also like DS9, though it's a station, not a ship (but I think it has a warp core... not sure, though).

In terms of beauty, Constitution-refit. Always looked the best.

Function as an exploration ship, Galaxy-class.

The ship I want in battle with me though, Defiant-class.

No, but it does have some reactors.

Favorite ship? The Intrepid? FUCK NO!

The Akira was kinda okay but then they went and turned it upside down and called it Enterprise.

The best will always be the original and it's direct descendent as far as trek ships go.

But the Negh'Var (http://www.webtrekitalia.com/upload/warp9/neghvar4.jpg) doesn't look too bad either.

What...you mean THIS (http://www.freewebs.com/usshorizon/prometheus-front-rear-bottom_320x215.jpg) butt-ugly piece of crap?

Nothing but a plot gimmick, used for only one show, as an excuse to allow the Voyager crew to get a message back to Earth. Quite sad, really.

We never saw much of them, but the Ambasador (http://images.wikia.com/memoryalpha/en/images/8/83/Ambassador_quarter.jpg) class was a very nice-looking ship, even all beaten up like the Enterprise-C was. It was essentially a sleeker version of the Galaxy class, not quite so bloated and top-heavy as the Enterprise-D.

No, one couldn't, as proven countless times throughout the series. Even in the midst of battle in that horror story that killed it in Generations, you'll note that the Enterprise took numerous hits without breaking. It was only after the battle that something finally gave way that lead to its destruction.

Zilam: Star Trek is neat.

Even the USS Odyssey didn't blow up until she was rammed by the Dominion vessel. No vessel could survive a collision at those speeds.

Firing at anti-matter storage pods doesn't seem to always kill a ship. The crew of the USS Valiant tried the same tactic against a Dominion Battleship. The battleship not only survived the vessel, but put the moronic Red Squad crew in its place. (Well all but 1 of Red Squad's crew were killed)

Physics dictates that it should, anti-matter is pretty damn explosive, a single gram of it detonates in the megaton range. If it didn't the associated hard radiation would surely kill anything within many kilometers.

That's what the crew of the Valiant thought.

My guess is that there might be seperate contaiment fields around that section of vessels carrying the pods. There is also extra armor near those sections.

So sleek and stylish...

Tie For Second: Daedalus Class
Gotta love the spherical alternative to a saucer section!

Tie For Second: Nebula Class
I always thought the "neck" of most Federation Starships seemed particularly vulnerable.
Similarly, I like the Centaur, which has the same basic configuration of the Nebula and Reliant classes, but the Excelsior look.

Third Place: Bradbury Class

Yeah, but this is Star Trek. The laws of physics do not dictate what happens; the writers do. If a writer decides a ship blows up, up it blows. If a writer decides that a ship survives, then it survives no matter what you throw at it.

And - this is a key point - the writers are not physicists, and largely do not care about physics when it gets in the way of their story. If you want to get all scientific about it, then most of Star Trek is pure fantasy anyway - it can't be squared with physical reality.

they have a physicist on board though, I saw it on a documentary, and he was on the phone telling this writer or other physicist how something or other in star trek should work.

Also if star trek is in an alternate universe to our own, then any physics violations are irrelevant and it must be since there are alternate universes in star trek.

not a gram. one pound is 19 megatons.

a gram has about 40 kilotons in it. if you mean an ounce then that would be in the megaton range.
