There are no other games. Nationstates is the only one.

I thought I was the only one who played Hitchhiker's!! :fluffle:

I was absolutely obsessed with one called Zork Zero. I think that's when my parents decided getting me a computer was actually a bad idea...

Anyone remember the name of that textbased game that came bundled on the BBC Micro in the 80's .I think it became an RPG in the 90s?

I play quite a few. Most only take a few minutes, some I put much more time into.

Battlemaster.org, for example. It's good for my medieval roleplaying and politics fix. Nationstates might be superficially about political leadership, but it only is when alliances are concerned... you don't actually rule over anyone just cuz you have an NS. Battlemaster is different. There's a huge amount of politics and power involved. Me likes.

Cybernations.net - I'm still giving this a shot after reading about it on this very forum. It's kinda dull so far. Collect taxes, build infrastructure, pay bills. Rinse, repeat. Part of a big alliance, but not an important one...

Nexuswar.com - I like this a lot, it's like urbandead in gameplay, only much more so. Has a gotchic, good vs evil sorta feel, but really, at its heart, it's about killing people in fun, interesting and/or efficient ways. Kinda dull and pointless unless you have a clan though, especially if you're into levelling up past 20 or so, since experience-giving kills are hard to find unless you go on raid groups.

Urbandead.com - only every so often nowadays. Zombies vs humans. Usually the humans win.

Shartak.com - kinda like the last two, this one with a colonialization type theme. Natives and colonists. Not so fun, really. After a while, wandering around killing elephants with a machete gets dull.

Zork! How could I forget Zork!

Yeah, I like how good graphics have gotten over the past few decades, but damn, the text-based games are still just fun.

By the way, how do you play the fuck out of something?

I got endlessly stuck at once point, trying to figure out which flange to dip into the tea or some such nonsense.

Of course, it's easy to find a cheat sheet (http://faqs.ign.com/articles/429/429003p1.html) these days.

There has been quite a bit of discussion about ADOM and blind players in the past few months on the usenet group. It is certainly playable without sight, as are most of the other roguelikes with appropriate screenreaders or suchlike.

Link (http://groups.google.co.uk/group/rec.games.roguelike.adom/tree/browse_frm/thread/e2d5f47e31082c38/05556802e8d25300?q=blind&hl=en&rnum=-6&lnk=ol) and some chat about an application someone knocked up to make ADOM more playable for the blind here (http://groups.google.co.uk/group/rec.games.roguelike.adom/browse_frm/thread/4247c7b69d5cf3dd/2af0d97eebd159de?lnk=gst&q=blind+adombot&rnum=1&hl=en#2af0d97eebd159de).

If a blind player can get past the Tower Of Eternal Flames, they are obviously doing a lot better than some sighted players.

As a separate issue the Zen Monk challenge game hasn't been completed yet - to finish the game with a blinded monk character. Suffice to say, wiping your 'f'ace isn't allowed.

Yeah, it was BASIC on the C64. What an evil language. However, I do give it props for being easy to figure out, unlike the ones being used today.

What I'd like to know is this, though: what dumbass thought LOGO was even remotely useful or productive? "OOH! LOOKEE! I can make my turtle draw a line!"

Zork rules.

Used to play Urban Dead and Nexus War. Hell, I was one of the original alpha testers for the latter. Never really managed to get back in after I left. It took way too long to level in NW, and UD, well, if a zombie isn't part of a major horde and doesn't raid, it's pretty much nothing more than an XP-cow. Only reason I manage is that I have well over 2000xp saved up, so I can buy any new skill that comes out.
