Are you interested? Will you at least look at it? What are your expectations?

A dark tower comic?

I'm a bit skeptical.

I love the books, and am a huge Stephen King fan overall, but I'm sure I'm not the only one to notice that, with the exception of the Shining and the Stand miniseries, Stephen King books do not translate well to other mediums

Roland is probably the best character Stephen King has ever created.

The one thing I disliked about the Dark Tower series is that King seems to have shifted gears on it about halfway through. It was going along fine through Wizard and Glass, but after he had his accident, he got weird on us. (Weird for him, I mean. I expect some weirdness from King, but he just went off the deep end.)

And the ending... Well, King said he expected a lot of people would hate it. He was right.

Mmm, I don't know, I'm keeping an open mind on this one, mostly because the novels struck me as very visual (the versions I read all had illustrations, which I assume King approved). I thought Carrie made a very good movie, and the original Salem's Lot, the one with David Soul, wasn't too bad.

Well, that's the whole fun of it, to see what will happen. I happen to think that The Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile, Dolores Claiborne, and Stand By Me were pretty good as movies.

I'm not much of a fan of comics to begin with, so I think i'm going to keep clear of this one

Now I'm all disappointed...

Can't see why anyone would vote for a character other than Roland. Though Blaine was pretty great. You've got to love the idea of a psychopathic monorail train.

I think the Stephen King books that have translated best into other media tend to be his short stories - Stand By Me, Shawshank Redemption, Green Mile. His full length novels are so detailed that they don't cross genres very well. (That's why I don't much rate the film version of The Shining. If I hadn't read the book, I might think it was great.)
I'd imagine the problem will be even more apparent with a comic book version of the massive Dark Tower series.

From what I can tell, the comics will chronicle the time from when Roland, Alain and Cuthbert leave Mejis to where The Gunslinger starts. At least, I think that's what they're about.

I didn't know it was coming out today. I haven't bought a comic book since I was a little kid, but I'll check this one out.

I didn't realize they were going to do that. I might start collecting comics. Thank you.

And Roland. Definitely Roland. He's the only one in the stories that you ever really connect with. And as hard a bastard as he is, you can't help but love him.

I'm on The Dark Tower IV: Wizard and Glass. I'll have to finish the series before I can decide which character is my favourite, though I have to say I'm eager to learn more about Cort.

My favorite personally was The Dark Tover III: The Waste Lands. I'd really like to know more about what exactly wiped out the Great Old Ones, and how.

Childe Roland of course, there aren't really any other major characters just an old man and maybe a couple of other people, who're all these folks you have listed?

Not a King fan, but a friend convinced me to read the Dark Tower series...I'm still on the first book, but it's good so far.

Is it going to be worth trudging my way through the next six books? I have enough reading from school filling my plate. :p

Many people couldn't cope with the first book, but persisted and found they loved the rest of the series. Therefore I recommend you keep on trudging.

Actually, Roland and Jake have just reached the mountains, and I'm finding it quite enjoyable.

If the first is regarded as the hardest to get through, then I should have no problems. :)

Still haven't read the last book, as I have a suspicion it'll ruin the whole series for me.

I enjoyed it. The end was rather......unfulfilling. But not exactly out of place either. The book up until then, though, was quite good.

Maybe if you just don't read the last chapter or two. =)

I quite agree, I saw that ending coming from quite a distance. Still, the books were good, I thought, though I could have done without the parts in the latter volumes where Mr. King was working through some personal issues.

I think the sixth, Song of Susanah, was the worst of the seven. King puts himself in the story for no good reason as far as I'm concerned and I don't like it. Still, the series is pretty good. You'll probably enjoy it.
