How soon is too soon for Primaries?

Every election cycle, it seems, primary elections move earlier and earlier. Even now, over a year before the final election, the "invisible" primary is occuring.

Isn't this a bit absurd? With the first billion dollar Presidential race fast approaching, does it make any sense to keep prolonging the time that candidates spend running?

I'm thinking that March is around the earliest time that primaries ought to occur.

Thoughts?

It's too fucking soon for them to be news stories, that's for damn sure.

I, for one, am surprised that the first debates are less than two months away.

What bothers me more is that there is a debate scheduled for after the New Hampshire Primary. If it was a calculated choice to try and pull NH back, I applaud, but it looks more like New Hampshire had to jump out in front again.
