Here's a nice video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8DXzjvnzPk

Fantastic animals! I remember when I woke up with a spider about as big as the one in the video, but black, crawling up my arm. When it went back to the floor I could hear its little steps.

It looks like it could eat a small child.

Looks about the size of a migale or tarantula, but slender and light brown (I think it's light brown, I'm colorblind)

Not a spider then. Solifuge. Also that puts a limit on its size. No more than about 10 cm legspan at the most, I think.

Cane spiders... adults are known to get big enough to eat rats.

Well I'll tell you one thing, I would not want to find that in my tent in the morning! I would scream like a girl and then beat it to a bloody pulp.

I hate big spiders.

I remember going to the New Orleans Aquarium one time and seeing a Goliath Bird-Eating Tarantula on display in a stand-alone Plexiglas habitat. It was so creepy I couldn't even walk up to it, even though there was an inch of glass between me and it.

Here's a pic of the spider, for comparison:

And the one I saw was bigger. It was like a baseball glove.

A girlfriend once tried to do that, she took her shoe off and started battering a spider she saw on the windshield, meanwhile I was laughing my ass off.

"Why won't you do anything? What's so funny?" she said

"Because it's on the other side!"

The spider didn't seem too upset.

Oh wait. Never mind.

"The photograph above is a study in perspective. The creatures pictured do, indeed, appear to be camel spiders. However, most accounts describe them as "golf-ball sized" or "about the size of a child's hand," and not the monsters they appear to be above. The composition of the photo draws your eyes to the legs of the soldier in the background for size comparison, rather than the other soldier's sleeve in the right foreground, which is the more accurate perspective. Then, the intertwining of the two insects also complicate getting a feel for their true size. The photo below gives a better indication of the Camel Spider's true size. "

Likely a forgery or trick perspective. Snopes had an article on it.

Ah, right. Trick perspective. They're rather large, maybe 10 cm legspan, but not huge.

Doesn't Brown Recluse venom cause massive tissue death?
I ask because I once saw a sequence of images of various stages after being bitten by a spider.
It was nasty.

EDIT: I went and found the link (http://nonk.nonk.info/pages2/spider_bite.php). WARNING: Not for the faint of heart. Seriously.

Doesn't Brown Recluse venom cause massive tissue death?
Usually, no. Necrosis can set in, but isn't the normal result

I ask because I once saw a sequence of images of various stages after being bitten by a spider.
I was on the brink of vomitting.
That one's fake, I believe.

My uncle was bitten by a spider and ended up losing a chunk of his calf. Only spider around here that poisonous is a brown recluse. Wolf Spiders and Black Widows, while nasty, can't do that.

I've actually seen some of those on youtube. The scorpion won in the round I saw, but I did see a Camel Spider own a mouse- that one was brutal.
