So far, 2007 has been a real crappy year.
I dont care to list off the reasons why this is the case, but suffice it to say, I deserve a reward.
So, Im buying my first brand-new guitar.
Ive played guitar casually for over a decade, and every guitar I own, or have owned, were all second, or even third-hand guitars.
Dont get me wrong, theres nothing at all wrong with older guitars, that have seen a lot of love, but Ive never had a nice, shiny brand-spanking new guitar of my very own.
I currently play an Ibanez EX, white with gold-finish hardware.
It was a mid-range instrument, retailing for about 500 dollars, over ten years ago.
Its Ibanez's knockoff of a Fender Stratocaster.
Its actually got a decent sound to it, but it lacks a wee bit on the "impending wall of sonic doom that threatens to consume us all" sound im looking for.
So, as we speak, a nice new Gibson SG Faded Special is on its way to me.
For you non-musician types who wonder what the hell a Gibson SG is, its what all sorts of famous guitar players from Tony Iommi of Black Sabbath, to Pete Townsend from The Who, to Angus Young of AC/DC, and many more.
Whats the difference between guitars like they play, and the one Im buying?
About 400 dollars.
The "Faded Special" has a worn paint job and finish, as to look like a gracefully aging instrument that has been played so much, the paint has started to fade away.
It also has slightly cheaper pick-ups. (the actual mechanism that amplifies the string noise)
Thats it.
So for 3/4 of the price of the SG Standard, I'll take it!
I dont care if its pink with bunnies on it, if it sounds like an SG, I'll be happy as hell.
Nothing says "Ahh I feel better now" like a new toy!
