Anyone know some good rock?

I need help. I want to get some new bands, so I can mention my musical preferences without people going "OMG. You are teh sux0rz!" *cough*TBD*cough*. Yeah, I like AC/DC. I also like Iron Man by Black Sabbath. I'm willing to listen to any hard rock, so recommend anything at all. If possible, link me to Youtube videos. I have no money to download music. And also, give me bands that speak English.

Good suggestions:

the way I see it, the lyrics are the least important part of the song, it only matters how the vocals interweave with the melody. it doesn't matter what they say, only how it sounds.

This is true. Most music weaves well with the lyrics. For example, rap sounds like trash and it's lyrics are trash.

Mmkay...if you like Sabbath...

You might like Kyuss. Actually, you really want some Kyuss. In fact, you want Kyuss so much that you are going to go download Welcome to Sky Valley right now.

Apart from that, you might like:

Clutch
Fu Manchu
Monster Magnet
Pentagram
Witchfinder
The Sword

All pretty Sabbath inspired in one way or another. You might like the Black Keys as well, as they do the blues-rock thing really well. I could suggest more bands, but I was trying to stick with that particular line...

I can suggest heavier stuff as well, but hey, you asked for rock. ;)

Oh - Legends of Motorsport. (www.legendsofmotorsport.com.au) cool local band about to break through, and doing their part to bring back rock organ. Awesome live show too.

Frankie is many things (including "Very Good"), but not Rock.

If you like AC/DC, you'll probably also like Icehouse. Also Australian, they broke into the US market with the Man of Colours album, and the Great Southern Land best of, but if you want to hear their real best, you should track down copies of Measure For Measure, Primitive Man and Code Blue.

Those videos rock. Motorhead officially kicks ass. 'Ace of Spades' is meh, but rocks really well. 'Hellraiser' is the coolest, and 'Born to Raise Hell' is cool as well. 'Going to Brazil' ROCKS, and 'R.A.M.O.N.E.S' is also good.

Yeah. Well, mixed reviews. Frankly the guitar and the organ are really cool, but the vocals are kind of irritating and girly. 'Cream' and 'Warm Milk and Honey' appeared to be their best out of the selection, though.

English? Some of the best music is in Norwegian.

I recommend Emperor and Immortal. Both are English speaking. Oh, and Dark Funeral and Tvangeste and My Dying Bride. Black Sabbath is a good start though, being the very first metal band. Hail Sabbath. Iron Man is not their best song though. I'd get the "Master of Reality" album. It's stupendous.

How dare you not mention Rush!

Rush is like the bestest band ever and stuff. I mean, they did everything man. But if you want to get their best albums buy in this order.

2112 - A Farewell to King - Hemispheres - Permanent Waves - Moving Pictures

The bolded ones are the uber good ones. Now, what is Rush ye say? Rush is prog rock but! with balls.

Then there's Cream. Just buy Cream Gold and you're set. They're a psychedelic blues band with the tighest rhythm section ever, and Eric Clapton was in it. Only around for two years but hey, they rock, hard. Plus they did Sunshine of your Love, which is l33t.

Another good hard rockin' band is Muse. I got into them through Black Holes and Revelations but people say Absolution is better, hell if I know.

And at last, Queensryche. Queensryche is prog metal to the best, and stuff. Go get Operation Mindcrime I and II, oh and Empire. Now, do it now. LEAVE!!!

That's about it.

I shall now be referred to as German Ramone. :D (In this thread. I'm still the GNM)
I completely forgot Iron Maiden. Check them out too, they rock.
Uh oh! Why I didn't even think of mentioning them is so totally beyond me, I'm more than a little worried now!
Haha. Cool bands, but when someone asks for "rock" I tend to avoid suggesting black metal. ;)
I was wondering about those bands, but since I never listened to them...

Shhh... trying to sneak them in...

Actually, I think of "Rock" as a huge umbrella genre that includes everything from old school Rock&Roll to Punk to Metal. Kinda like Jazz often is understood to incorporate everything from even Dixieland and Ragtime to Big Band to Coltrane, or "Classical" incorporating everything from Hildegard von Bingen (Gregorian Chant) to Mozart to Shostakovitch (though "classical" also refers to a specific period of such as well).

How dare you not mention Rush!

Rush is like the bestest band ever and stuff. I mean, they did everything man. But if you want to get their best albums buy in this order.
I love them. :) Especially since they dedicated 2112 to Ayn Rand. :D

Hemispheres has much better songwriting quality than 2112, though that's not to say that the former is a bad album (it's one of the best ever). And while Permanent Waves is great, Moving Pictures is 100% gold all the way around.

As for Cream having the tightest rhythm section ever? I dunno, man. After watching live videos of Rush, I don't see how many (if any) can compare to that kind of performance quality. Geddy's got it down.

I love them. :) Especially since they dedicated 2112 to Ayn Rand. :D

Well, Neil himself said that was just to save himself from the rabid followers of Rand. He noticed that 2112 was almost identical to Anthem (or was it Atlas Shrugged?), and not wanting to be accused of plagiarism (he definitely would've been), he decided to put "Dedicated to the genius of Ayn Rand" as a header for the liner notes.

You can tell quite easily in his work after 2112 that he largely disagrees with a lot of Rand's philosophy. Just listen to A Farewell To Kings and Hemispheres. He's always been about working with others to achieve greater things than he would've on his own (as he's said many times about the chemistry of Rush).

I would not suggest Korn, Mudvayne, Godsmack etc. etc.

However, these are some mighty fine rock bands:

Underoath are shite. Sorry, but Christian screamo-metal really isn;t that attractive. Get some taste.

Personally, I recommend LoveHateHero, Azriel, Fall of Troy, Roses are Red and Dave Melillo.

Maybe I've missed it, but I can't believe nobody's mentioned Wolfmother.

And not all good rock has to be metal- The Who, Jimi Hendrix, Clapton (Cream, Derek and the Dominoes, etc.), the Allman Brothers, later Beatles, Alan Parsons Project, King Crimson, the Doors, and Pink Floyd (someone mentioned some Floyd, but most of their stuff is fantastic) are all great. Granted that's mostly classic rock, but still quality material.

I have a strange feeling that soon we'll be talking about Bay City Rollers and Pat Boone...what a tragedy that would be. :(

They got one thing right - she was a genius. 2112 is my favourite album of theirs. :)

And? How does that diverge from Rand? I know the band softened up a bit later on the whole Rand thing, but they always remained individualistic.
