So I guess I'm asking a combination of best living standarts, highest wealth (GDP per capita), highest technology, highest education, best environment, most democratic and free, etc...

Too subjective. Different weightings on different variables give different answers.
Playing around with this (http://www.nationmaster.com/statistics)will give better answers.

Anglo-North America, The EU and Japan probably all file under the most advanced category quite nicely.

No single answer.
Military - USA
Technology - Japan
Welfare - Norway
Anyway, advanced on WHAT? Norway must be an awesome place to live, yet it has a very high number of suicides.

No, it doesn't. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_suicide_rate) What is it with people repeating this nonsense that the Scandinavian countries are supposed to have "very high" suicide rates? Only Finland comes in the top twenty. The rest don't have very impressive rates at all.

Military: USD
Tech: USD. Alright, let us all know that the US military has the most adavanced tech in the world as the tech from the Cold War still awes us and when it comes out is the most advanced tech on the market thus it can be assumed what they are giving away is obsolete.
Welfare: Norway
Society: Monaco
Democracy: The Vatican
Captilism: Hong Kong
Communist: Cuba
That is all for now...
In terms of technological innovation and economic growth, the US. In terms of applied technology and infrastructure, Japan. In terms of human development and income equality, the Scandinavian countries.

43° in 2xx countries is pretty high.
The list only has around 100 countries in it, so you may want to read it again, this time using more than your eyes. By the by, the US is in 45 - does it have "very high" suicide rates? If you look at what separates the countries in the middle, it's two-three deaths/100 000/year.
The claim that Norway would have a "very high" suicide rate is ignorant nonsense. It has a pretty average suicide rate as can be easily seen in those figures.

After being at a Chinese airport I'd have to say China, it was just like being on the USS Enterprise. The elevators talked to you, And don't forget that Shanghai is a famous tourist attraction because of all the futuristic lights it has.

But at the same time, that's only true for a very small number of people. Most Chinese live in villages where there is no indoor plumbing and only basic electrical and telephone infrastructure. Outside of the newly built commercial areas and the government showpieces, it's pretty poor and underdeveloped.
Anyways, my vote goes to the US because I live there and it's my country of birth.

Since the question is, most advanced, and not asking for what we think is the best...
South Korea displaces everyone else in the next ten years...
The South Korean economy has advanced rapidly since the 1950s and is now the 11th largest (nominal value) economy in the world, listed among the "Next Eleven" economies. South Korea is also one of the world's most technologically advanced and digitally-connected countries; it has the third most broadband Internet users among OECD countries[3] and is a global leader in electronics, digital displays, and mobile phones. South Korea is the largest shipbuilder in the world in terms of tonnage.

By most counts, Scandinavian countries, I suppose.

The nearest country with a reasonable proportion of speakers of your native tongue (i.e. >30%), that you don't live in. Or even the next state or city over. Wherever you live tends to be described by you as a "shithole" or a "welfare state" or a "cesspool of capitalist oppression" or somesuch.

I'm speaking technology here..
I don't know enough of each to say exactly.. but I will say that Japan (they are great in what they do btw) basically just improve on what is already there.. not demeaning that.. but that's what I see them do for the most part (had an argument with someone that said the improvement was more important than the invention -- I ofcourse think the invention is more important then the improvement).
As for inventing .. hmm I always think of Germany first and foremost.. then France, Russia .. and various other european countries and ofcourse the US. As for who's leading now? No clue. I'm pretty sure Russia isn't in there though. China .. might well be .. if so.. we (the average joe) don't know it.. but if they are, the powers that be do know it. Probably the US, Britain or China.
I ofcourse would list Germany in there under normal circumstances but as it is.. they are strangled.

I was split between China and Japan.. I'm probably wrong in saying China.. maybe I just let their sheer numbers influence my thought. As for Germany.. I'd love to see them there.. but I feel they are strangleheld by their own government at the fear of another 'holocaust'.
Where's Italy in this btw. just thought of them hehe. They use to be decent I think? France too.

Since we're speaking about technology, it makes sense to mention the industry leaders. Italy is not too far behind. France could be one of the leaders in this field though. As for China, it is nowhere up to Japan's standard - yet.
