I think Orwell touched on it in 1984, actually; by controlling the sexuality and pleasure of the young, the Party could channel their pent up frustration and energy in to goals that they saw desirable.

That's one reason why authoritarian societies tend to be strongly socially authoritarian; they need to focus that energy towards the Party or the enemy and away from themselves.

Other examples might be the tendency for much of the Eastern Bloc (with a few exceptions like Hungary and East Germany) to intentionally deprive their citizens of consumer goods so as to focus them more towards the goals of the ruling Party.

That is done because most girl think it's cute.

That's part 2: They control their peoples' thoughts in order to keep them from questioning the fact. That's why those regimes need so much censorship, spying, and repression; otherwise, people are going to start asking that very question.

It's also why, especially in the Middle East, many regimes decided to keep their people either intentionally undereducated or indoctrinated them through the education system. It produces either ignorance or thought control from an early age that lasts through adulthood.

IMHO they are afraid that if they stop fighting it nothing will change. Teenagers won't turn into these rabid sex fiends (not that they aren't already), that teen pregnancy will ::gasp:: go down instead of skyrocket, that people won't vacate churches en masse to have wild sex orgies (except ruffy;)), people won't start humping dogs, the evil visage of satan won't appear above DC, athiests won't stampede the white house, ect.

These things hardly happen to every teen who has sex but these examples are visible so it brings negative views at the idea of teen sex. Teens just need more education about the consequences of sex when they are not safe and/or rush into it. Simple knowledge will have a large impact.

Some may have zero problems with that but I have noticed that many times, those teens that hurry into sex regret it afterward. The person they were with turns into an asshole afterward, or they may look back and feel that they simply made their first time to be a letdown by rushing. Further, some teens are simply emotionally not ready for sex but when you have the media, popular culture and their friends telling them that "everyone is doing it" and the other annoying phrases that are thrown about, they are pressured into something they may really not want. To me this is the ugly side of finding teen sex acceptable. While if the couple truly feels ready I don't personally have any problem with it, they should also know that "everyone" is most certainly not "doing it".

Though he is a little obsessed about linking sexual repression to authoriatarianism, he does analyze the psychology around sexual repression and the disorders that repression creates and points out an example of a society that had complete sexual freedom and a lack of psychological disorders.

Theres a difference between complete sexual freedom, and being encouraged (or pressured to fit into the norm as I like to call it) to have sex.

It's not about preventing harm or promoting health. It's about making people miserable. Take a look at every political stance the Fundies take. Sometimes it's about saving lives, but sometimes it's about causing deaths. Sometimes it's about helping the poor, but sometimes it's about making them poorer or exploiting them.

The only thing that's consistent about fundie teachings is that if they are followed, more people will suffer than if their teachings are ignored.
