...this guy. The dumb-ass robbed a gun shop (or tried to) with a machete. It doesn't take rocket science to figure out what happened next! :D

Since he's still alive, he does not qualify for a Darwin Award. Unless he took a shot to the groin and can't reproduce any longer...

Why is the guy who shot him getting a firearms ... thingey? I mean, seriously, someone threatens you, you shoot him in self-defence, and they get mad at you for doing it with a firearm?

What trouble you would find yourselves in nowadays. From the little I see about crime in the UK, criminals seem to have the rights to not be harmed or scared in the commission of a crime.

Did he take off or did the butcher have a "Today's special" that day?

Nah it was a gut shot.
Sad thing is that the gun shop worker got arrested and charged for shooting the bastard.

if the knife wielder was no longer a threat shooting him would then be excessive...
years ago in my uni days I had a part time job as a bouncer in an all night pizza/bar...one night we had some unsavory types pull out their knives when we ejected them...wrong thing to do in a place where 18 inch pizza knives are the favoured kitchen implement...

The article doesn't go into too any details about when the would-be robber was shot (whether he was still a threat or not). Hopefully a follow-up article will shed more light on that subject.

The US justice system wants us to all be defenseless so they make it against the law to defend yourself.

Its for your own good of coarse. In fact, its your own fault for being robbed, since obviously soceity made the man try to harm you.

In the history of our reasonable force laws, only 5 people have been charged with them. One of them (perhaps the most famous example) shot a burgler in the back with a shotgun as he tried to flee empty handed, and another example was after the criminal was flung into a pit for several days for their crime.
