I heard about that on my way home today. That's just plain ugly.
It's odd hearing that it happened out towards Cobourg and not a busier stretch, like say once you get past Whitby. I know it's snowing out there, but it's not that bad... or is it?

Depending on the time day in conjunction with the weather, that stretch can be a bitch.

But it's more or less a straightaway... 2 lanes each direction... although it wouldn't take much for one driver to cause a chain reaction, as I'm sure happened here.
Incidentally, what part of the GTA are you from?

I'm from the mid-town area; the south-ass end of North York.

Gotcha.
Yeah, I'm not trying to downplay the accident or anything. It's just that I've driven down the 401 a million times, pretty much in both directions to the very end. (I'm in the moving biz.) It's surprising to hear of a pile up in that area.
I hate driving the 401. The traffic gets way too close together. Someone needs to teach Torontonians to leave some space between them and the leading car. Back off a little.

You get used to it. But you're right. Espescially in snowy weather.
Ouch! Hope the number dead doesn't rise.
