YAY! :D

Pity the possibilities and ramifications of nanotechnology are so broad and will probably hit us so suddenly that we most likely will get in over our heads and doom mankind to a horrible fate long before we master nanotechnology.

But it'll be one hell of a ride! :D

I read about this in the newsletter from KurzweilAI this morning.

I can see some very important applications for this technology; it will be a major boon to the medical and biotech industries and will most likely significantly advance the role of nanotechnology in drugs. All kinds of new procedures will likely become reality thanks to this and other breakthroughs.

Massive advances in computing technology, new techniques in robotics, and a major discovery in nanotech...talk about one hell of a week of technological advancement.

I wonder if we can overcome the second law of thermodynamics now?

Probably not, atleast not in any meaningful sense. There's a wonderful write-up on Wiki.

I just want everyone to know in advance I'll be the villian with one of his arms replaced by a swarm of nanobots that allow me to shapeshift my arm.

Being so small they are impossible to sheild so the simplest and most effective weapon would be a magnet. Pretty easy to take care of if you think about it.

What if they make them out of plastic or nonmagnetic metals?

Bwha? Iron is involved here? Or cobalt, or nickel...

Time to start investing in nanotech...I for one am looking forward to respirocytes in particular.

Is it just me, or does the term "Nanodoom" sound like something out of Invader Zim?

To coin a catchphrase:

"We're doomed! Doomed!"
