If you have time, I recommend watching these (http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/elegant/program.html) clips of NOVA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NOVA_%28TV_series%29), actually the entire episodes all about the universe and unification theories, string theories, and so on. So far, I've watched just the first hour, but it's quite intriguing and explained some things to me that didn't make sense from the snippets of string theory and quantum mechanics I had beforehand. :) Enjoy.
