DS. That's popular opinion critically and in the sales numbers. If you want a console game get a console. Not a handheld that trys to play console games and fails at it.

Thats my opinions of the ones I saw at work but I have not actually PLAYED one(psp that is) just watched others frustration so I was curious (was leaning towards the DS to start with) I dont want to do any fancy hacking of it I dont want to geek out over it like I do my computers I just want to play some good games

Apparently no one told you half of the DS's library was rehashed SNES and N64 games, and in some cases NES.

Yeah I know. But half doesn't count for anything. This is video gaming. Sifting through the crap is an inevitable part of it.

Notes the lack of PSP defence in this thread. I want to hear some good points about it. It didn't sell half as many units as DS on the Playstation name and improperly informed consumers on its own. I think.

Well, I'll be the first to admit PSP's weaknesses, but first it's strengths:

PSP can play movies. Want to watch a movie?
PSP can access the internet. Want to check the Weather Channel? listen to RSSes? View Nationstates?
PSP can play mp3s.
You can watch your home television(including DVDs) over Wifi. PSP is compatible with Sony's Locationfree system.
PSP has some very groovy games(pity there are so few of them. :p )

PSP is also pricy as hell and has very few good games for it. I'd recommend getting a DS, instead.

PSP has sooooooooo much potential but doesn't deliver very much at all.

DS, on the other hand, also has soooooooooo much potential, and while it doesn't deliver perfectly, it does a damn good job, so it wins this round.

well there both shit of the highest order but I say PSP because of the extra features (in particular the music though if you don’t mind losing your hearing get some proper headphones for loudness)

I also say PSP because of a story that I can’t be arsed to type :p

Well, if you want to be all shady about it, the PSP actually has a very large community of people that develop unlicensed resources for it. They do anything from turning it into a universal remote, to letting you play any ISO for free, or emulating anything and everything up to PSX and N64.

The extra features are of no use to me ... I have enough other gadgets to do them as is. I just want it to game thats it.

PSP, cuz they don't have an annoying advertising campaign sponsoring every tv show in existence. and they don't have a stupid touchpad gimmick.

Any more of a gimmick then "you can watch movies" ? at least the touchpad leaves interesting possibilities for games

i don't know what gimmicks the PSP has cuz it doesn't have such an insidious and irritating advertising campaign.

... DS has the library, all the Nintendo games will work on it... or at least the ones I have would.

the PSP is sweet and it can be used for so much more than playing games. but their library leaves alot to be desired.

I guess I need to pick up both (I have a Gameboy Advanced SP) and try them out.

My only experiences with them is trying to get the darned thing on the wireless network and my co worker swearing cause he upgraded the OS/Firmware too far and now cant hack it to do anything cool.

about 20 minuets playtime on the DS is about all I have

In fact I can not remember seeing a single DS commercial and only that one PSP one where the guy is trying to track down the girl

i guess they have different advertising styles over here. as far as i've seen PSP only do paper advertising which is easy to ignore.

anyway, i wouldn't shell out my hard-earned cash for either. computer games aren't really my thing.

rather those than the DS Touch Me commercials.

yes! those are the ones i mean. and the ones where they do real-life interpretations of the games on a stage done out to look like a DS. they're fucking everywhere.

Because as we all know Movies, TV and the 'net work fantastically on a 11cm 480×272 pixel screen.

Now for some weaknesses.

- Low battery life
- Terrible format which means
- Low battery life
- Terrible loading times
- Needs memory cards! wtf?!
- Most of the games are either moblie phone games or stuff that belongs on a console with proper controls and screen size

If you can get past that (or want a rear view mirror!!). Get a PSP.

I've seen the screen, it's clear. heck, if I can read subtitles on it. then everyone else can browse the forums with it. :D

DS. The games are fun, and not merely scaled down console games. It's cheaper, too.

About the PSPs for the "you can play movies" defense, let's face it - if you want to watch that movie you probably already have it on DVD. Also, appparently (http://www.mobilemag.com/content/100/337/C6547/) some companies are reducing support.
