This is no doubt an old quote, but Ivins is in the hospital right now with cancer and it's iffy as to whether or not she'll ever make it out. She's one of my favorite political columnists. This is a brief piece on gun control which is only half serious, but all funny.
"I am not anti-gun. I'm pro-knife. Consider the merits of the knife. In the first place, you have to catch up with someone in order to stab him. A general substitution of knives for guns would promote physical fitness. We'd turn into a whole nation of great runners. Plus, knives don't ricochet. And people are seldom killed while cleaning their knives."
If anyone else is an Ivins fan, please feel free to post your favorite bits. Her description of being attacked by Rush Limbaugh is also funny.

I disagree with Miss Ivins on nearly all issues, but I do have a lot of respect for her, and she can be pretty funny.

I hope she'll recover and be okay. :(
