My Nose....:-(

Today, I was playing Soccer with some buddies of mine. Unfortunately, in the course of doing so, I rammed into one of them, and collided with his shoulder...with my nose. Blood clots from the dried blood which didn't flow out is preventing me from breathing, and the pain is almost unbearable. What a crappy way to start a weekend. :(

Not a lot of choice is there, eh mate? As for the shower, good advice, and I've already had one. Doesn't help with the pain, but it did help me relax a bit. :)

Soccer can get pretty dangerous, in my experience anyway. I've people shatter a kneecap, break an arm, break a wrist, and get a concussion playing it, and that's just off the top of my head.

Why don't you just blow your nose to get the blood clots out?

I tried that, but it doesn't quite work. The problem is that the blood is stuck in the back of my nose, and the bridge is swollen not allowing enough room for it to exit, thus making breathing difficult due to the clots, and the decreasing room in my nose anyway.

Ouch.. Is it best to let the blood harden up like that.. or should you moisten it by like carefully snorting some warm water up in there to clean it out a bit so it can heal up better?

Never mind.. I was thinking they were blood boogers not scabs. After it heals some then you can soften em up I guess. I feel for your nose.

Pfft, your not going to bleed to death from a nose bleed, so it starts up again just keep blowing and it will eventually clot with out the blockage, at least in my experiance. Of course the fact that he can't blow his nose do to swelling makes that all mute.

Yeah man, Pyotr is going a bit drastic, though I think that was supposed to be a joke (and amusing it was :))
Anyway, I kept a bag of ice and a paper towel on my head most of the afternoon. Paper towel sucked up most of the flowing blood, and the ice numbed the nose into submission (lol).
Now I do believe, I shall take some more Advil....thats good stuff mates. :)

ouch! that sucks. i got my nose broken in a fight about a year ago. i suggest a packet of frozen peas for the swelling, some arnica ointment to stop it bruising too much, and some ibuprofen gel for the pain. as for the blood clots, the only way to get them out is to be a bit disgusting and cope with a bit of pain - you need to pick them out. how long since it happened though? best to wait a day at least before doing this to make sure it's healed sufficiently, you don't want to open up the wounds again.

Yes it does, but one minor point: Atilla choked on his own blood in his sleep, he didn't bleed to death.
-EDIT- and wanderjar is right, it was intended as a joke.

Yeah, as disgusting as it is to say, I have been picking at it. However, my Grandpa told me not to, saying it would make it worse.....but its just so tempting! When I get it out, I can actually almost breathe again!

Nah, that is nothing. A soccer player only knows pain when he is hit in the balls by the ball, specially when at full speed.
The pain is blinding. It takes about 5 to 10 seconds to start, but once it does, you just feel like lying down and staying there in fetus position.

Sounds like the time a friend of mine got smacked square across the adam's apple with a frisbee. It took about ten minutes for him to regain speech. You can get hurt doing the most innocent things... I pulled my trapezius just two days ago doing sit-ups. Since then, I've mostly been doing lie-downs. :D

Indeed, broken face>soccerball to the balls in terms of pain. My worst soccer related injury was a broken arm playing goalie, which is also worse than a kick to the groin in my experience.

Feh. No groin injury beats testicular torsion. It happened for no reason at all. I had to get an operation before my balls died.

Oh man! I keep reading the title as "Ny Nose..." and wondered who the hell that was!?!
Soccer can get pretty dangerous, in my experience anyway. I've people shatter a kneecap, break an arm, break a wrist, and get a concussion playing it, and that's just off the top of my head.
I'm living proof of that. During my heyday in soccer I shattered my right leg and broke the foot of my left during the state championship game. I was the team's star player, and had I not shattered my leg, I think I might have gone far enough to net myself an athletic scholorship with soccer.
As for my leg, it took six months for it to heal, four of those spent in a wheelchair because I couldn't walk at all. I'm fine with walking now, though I still have a cane if I need it. (Not that I have for some time. I broke my leg when I was twelve and I'm almost twenty now...)
So I definitely emphasize, Wanderjar. I've seen some people break noses during soccer too. It's not pleasant. (Course I also saw one person have half their ear taken off because they were stupid enough to wear a hoop earring during an improvised soccer match...)
