What would you do if Max closed down NS?

I'm sure we'd be able to cook up some crazy method of giving new life to the forums.

Just move on, I guess. I don't have bonds outside of the forum, really (well, a couple, but not much), so if it didn't exist there wouldn't be anyway for me to even know where everyone went, much less follow them or anything like that. So it would all go away like that Zork game I don't play anymore.

Can you imagine life without DC's weird news threads? OceanDrive's rants? Wilgrove's bizarre tales of a life spent mostly tucked away from the rest of the world...Fass' wonderful sarcasm? Smunkee's punk version of religion?

Shake.
Piss in my pants.
Huddle in the corner shivering like a wet dog.
Shake my fist at the cold, unforgiving heavens.

...

No, seriously, I would just move on. I play cybenations.com more nowadays for the "nation simulation" thing, and I play three other free online browser games more for the roleplaying. I post on tribe.net as often as here about politics nowadays. I'd deal.

Though I'm not sure where I would go to get my hot sexy Neesika quota.

I would cry. I would slash myself. I would go up to <insert nearby Virginia suburb> and jump off a bridge, narrowly avoiding a horrible death by a speeding yacht named after Maryland.

Then... I would write "NSG Pancake" everywhere... and go to UNC @ Wilmington... then spend the rest of my life in a tree, in a place where thunderstorms are rare.

Either that or somehow get Max to create another NS. :p

Of course, if you're going for content, be sure to get some variety. Nazz and I have a few different positions on some issues but overall I think we're pretty close to the same. but chances are, even if they didn't write a song about NS but they did jump off a bridge, they were most likely pulled out of the water before gettign hit by a speeding yacht.

i'd probably be asleep right now instead of logging in every night arround 00:30 to check my issue and hang out on these forums for a while.

i like the idea of simulating how i'd like to run a nation, which i really don't think n.s. does as well as i'd like. nor does it really address the aspects of doing so i'm most interested in.

i'd really like to find some place that does. that isn't about a bunch of kinds wanting to play nations making wars on each other but really organizing infrastructure, setting policy priorities, qualities of life and core values of cultures, that sort of thing.

and being honest and objective and realistic about the connection between priorities and probabilities that can be scientificly observed in real life. and i don't mean limited to the self isolation of economic theory, and how that relates to weapons development, but really about the quality of what people experience in their lives and how a lot of things interact, which i don't doubt would be to complex and time consuming to program for a lot of people who probably wouldn't be interested anyway.

i think it's cool that it's here. and i appreaciate that it has been created and made possible. i AM here after all.

i would be, if it went away, well it would be a big chunk out of my vicarious virtual 'life', but not the end of it by a very long way.

i do thank everyone who makes it possible. but i sure wish i could find something that this, "n.s." only fractionaly fills a very small part of the need i feel for.

If it shut down then I would probably do two things: open the NS page, set Firefox's TryAgain extension timer to 4 seconds instead of its current 10 and leave it open until the Universe ended or NS came back up, whichever happened first; the second thing I would do is go on a rampage and kill everything in sight from a mixture of insanity and loneliness.

NSG is the first online forum I ever actually went on. It's true! I admit I was a forum virgin! And though I now post sporadically elsewhere, NSG is my first love, and will always remain so. I adore and despise its quirky cast of characters.

So for real. We should have a 'just in case' plan for what to do if NSG gets shut down. So far it seems to be:

A) Take over spam.

But we need a backup plan B. If jolt goes kerplunk...how shall we find one another again? HOW!!!???

I'd make my NationStates Expatriates IF forum public and invite all the old NS people to go back there and continue posting, even if there isn't an actual game to keep them there. If any of the moderators and coders were still around, I'd invite them to attempt to recreate some of the NS source code, and we'd host it on a private server or something, and it would crash a lot, just like in the old days. Eventually we'd grow too big for IF and find another server like Jolt that can host us, until that one too goes out of business. And so ad infinitum.

Eventually we'd all just move into Simonist's house and sit around debating politics for real all day until we die. I dunno.

What would we do? Where would we go to find refuge? Would the friendships, rivalries etc fostered here simply cease to exist? *shudders*

Don't even think about that. No...no...http://www.nearlygood.com/smilies/vibrate.gifhttp://www.nearlygood.com/smilies/bawling.gif

I'm sortof lucky I suppose, in the sense that I keep in touch with most of anyone I need to via either the IRC or offsite forums. I would suppose that if Nationstates died, we would continue writing on another forum of sorts.

This sort of thing was actually organized when the forums were moved to Jolt; there were 100 players or so who used one in particular, the rest of us just waited patiently.

Anyways, anyone can google the NS Wiki, and/or login to the IRC and ask everyone what's happening. If Jolt died, I'd say they'd find something different... else if ns.net died, it would be up to you.

Probably by my habit of questioning Mod rulings over the period of three years.

Pfft, that's ridiculous. [violet] must want your internet babies.

Tempting thought. [violet] is cute, though a bit older than I usually go for.

The NS Modsquad is not a very good place to have children. We're looking at an anime fangirl, an elf, an English teacher, and someone from San Francisco. Plus an admin no-one really knows too much about, except that she's Aussie. I mean, seriously.

I would go with the one from San Francisco. Such a sweetheart. :)

Meh, I can live with it.
Just end up setting permanent residence in Megatokyo Forums.
