Song Hybrids

Have you ever had 2 songs stuck in your head at the same time? I do right now, and it's pretty bizarre. It's a Black Sabbath/Banana Splits combo (thanks to the Hana Barbera thread) and it goes something like this:

Your love for me has just got to be real
before you know the way I'm going to feel
I'm going to feel
I'm going to feel
Oh yeah!

5 bananas make a bunch
And so do many more
Lalalalalalala (repeat)

So, anyone else have any interesting combos?

I get Green Eggs and Ham to the tune of Black Sabbath's Iron Man stuck in my head now and then.

Somewhere out there in the world is the person responsible for that, because I'm pretty sure I didn't notice that on my own. I will find him or her, I don't know exactly what I'm going to do when that happens, but it will...

Whoa. I can see how that would work. What is it about Black Sabbath that does this to people?

Diabolic Symphony by Steel Attack and Saturation Point by Marty Friedman(I think, something along those lines.)

Now they're stuck in my head again.

I hate you.

It's the Sabbath sound that does it.

It's never happened to me, but I do know a cockatiel who likes to whistle, and transitions seamlessly between Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, Tequila and Take Me Out to the Ball Game. :p

Every semester when I'm talking about rhythm in poetry, I sing Amazing Grace to the tune of the theme from Gilligan's Island to my classes. They generally hate me after that, especially the religious ones. I think I'm going to have to find a new song, though, because I'm starting to get blank stares occasionally.
Those young people that don't know the tune of Gilligan's Island, eh?

You should really post a recording of that!!!

Sing "My Neck, My Back" to the tune of Amazing Grace. It's sounding interesting in my head.

I have a Bernstein recording where he has Macbeth sung as a blues song to demonstrate that the blues has the same meter. It's the "I shall fear no man nor Dane" bit. I was a sound designer for a production of Macbeth and played that unannounced during a lull in the tech rehearsal. I forgot it was playing to a bunch of theater people, which meant they started doing the whole thing like they were Delta Blues singers...

Is that the thing, "I went over to Switzerland, where all the yodlers be"?

That's on some ad for something. It's not very effective cos I don't know what the product is. Might be something to so with banking.

My brain is not complex enough apparently to have two songs playing at once inside my head. I do like musical hybrids or "mash-ups", like this song I once heard on the radio that combined punk-rock with Gregorian chanting.

Quite bitchin' really.

I don't know about Gregorian, but deep voiced chanting in latin makes anything awesome.

Advertising isn't effective if you can remember it clearly, the goal is to get their product lodged in your unconcious, so that you purchase/use it without ever becoming aware of why.

I made the mistake once, years ago, of proving to a friend my theory that all Britney Spears songs sound alike by giving an impromptu performance of various bits and pieces of several of her songs randomly linked together. It proved my point admirably well, but now whenever I have the misfortune to hear any of the songs in question, I end up getting all of them stuck in my head.

there is a whole 'genre' based upon this kind of stuff (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mashup_%28music%29) and i've heard some cool songs made this way.

sometimes, I have both German (Einigkeit und Recht und Freiheit and Auferstanden aus Ruinen) anthems stuck in my head... one can be sung at the tune of the other, which makes it additionally weird
