The Roman Gods were real, after all?

"But...that's just evidence that there was a cave!"

"But...that's just evidence that there might have been a wolf nursing somebody!"

"None of this is evidence of the God-hood of any involved parties!"

"But Jesus was a real boy. Yeah-huh. That's totally different."

So - it looks like archeologists have found the cave where Romulus and Remus were raised by wolves.

The twin sons of Mars, legendary founders of the city(state) of Rome, and mythical adopted-children of a wolf - and now we have material evidence.

No, they weren't. They were the begotten sons of a god, though.

Yeah because of course myths created about real people equate to Roman gods being real.

I've heard is said that there are enough pieces of the one true cross to build Noah's ark with.

And probably enough shrouds to giftwrap the ark.

I believe the archaeologists said that they think they've found the place the Romans believed was where Romulus and Remus were suckled by the she-wolf, not the actual place. And that famous statue (http://www.eso.org/outreach/press-rel/pr-2005/images/romulus.jpg) of the wolf nursing the babies? The boys were added later. The wolf herself is an Etruscan bronze, I believe, not Roman.

And Romulus, after his "mysterious" disappearance in a fog (he was probably hacked to bits by the Senate after pissing them off over something, I forget what), did become a god, he became Quirinus. "Quirites" became a kind of synonym for "Roman citizen," too. I think that when one of Caesar's legions made a fuss over pay or discharge or something towards the end of the Gallic Wars, he quelled the rebellion simply by calling the assembled men "Quirites" instead of whatever the Latin is for "soldier" (he basically called them "civilians").

Anyway, this is cool and it's good to see that they're opening up parts of the Palatine. I hope there'll be an article on the work in the AJA soon.
