What do you guys think of it? Good, bad?
A lot of people I know who have bought it have been telling me it is riddled with problems and errors.
I'm wondering whether I should ignore them and upgrade or not. Help?

It really is problematic and hole-ridden, just like XP was.
Wait for Microsoft to drop a service pack then pounce on it... if youre into Windows.

It even didn't get size-changes right! really! During those, it showed the content of lower windows briefly. It's a PoS!

Which means that you trust the good people of SuSE, Red Hat or the Debian community? :)

I use Vista at work, and all it is is a bigger more bloated operating system that looks and feels like a Mac, but with all the crashes and memory leaks of Windows.
Welcome to the new Windows!

Patience is a virtue,
Bless it if you can.

Unless you're a gamer and have some serious cash to spend on a new rig.... then don't bother.

It is better than XP, and runs faster. Unless of course you have faulty hardware like a lot of other posters clearly have ;)

My machine cost me $2600 about 3 years ago and it meets all specifications of VISTA and runs AERO fine. It really is a bit extreme to say you automatically need a new computer to run the OS. For one thing, 1GB of ram is nothing these days, I mean THREE YEARS AGO when I was getting this I only barely turned down 2GB.

Yeah, but the only reason to get it is if you have a DirectX 10 graphics card (at the moment, that means an nVidia 8800) and have a DirectX 10 game to play on it (of which, at the moment, there are exactly none. There aren't even finished DirectX 10 drivers for the 8800 yet).
So wait a year or two until it's worth it.

For Direct X 10 (which is the only reason to upgrade to Vista) You'd need a Direct X 10 graphics card which is quite pricey. Thats what I was referring to.

Wait a year, or at least for the first service pack. It's not as bad as they're making out to be, but every first release has its share of problems. Windows XP is a very mature product by now and there's no real reason to change it yet.
In one year there'll be better hardware support, games that truly use DirectX10, and most important issues will have been fixed.

Right, but if I order it now I can get it for $27.
So should I order it now and install it later?
