Why can't you just play the damn music right?!

The answer is cunning in it's simplicity.

Either you haven't applied th WMX2000 insulator chord correctly or...
You touch yourself at night or...
Even Jesus doesn't love you, he doesn't even like you as a friend.

Aren't they in the mist of a law suit for trying to create a monopoly, what with not allowing there iTunes songs to be played on non-iPod mp3 players with a load of converting?

or did they get that cleared up?

No, this isn't about cover bands or anything like that. It's a rant about how annoyed I'm getting with iTunes music player. Why oh why must you suck and make me play with the equalizer every god damn time a new song comes on?!

Why must you insist on making my music experience horrible?!

I've said it before, and I'll say it again: There are no good music players for Windows (that may change with KDE4).

This may be news to you, but not all music is made with the same settings as far as frequencies. In fact, some groups prefer drastically different sounds and so when they make their music, ask the sound guy to play around with the equalizer until they get what they like. The sound guy him/herself may have their own preference as well. This is called "producing."

Sometimes artists don't have much money and so can't make their stuff in a good studio or with a great sound person, and so the song/album ends up badly produced.

On my computer, I change the equalizer settings all the time, practically with every different CD.

Bah. It's too annoying. Too annoying I say!

I hardly listen to music, so when I'm in the mood to listen to music, I like it to not be frustrating. It totally ruins my mood. It's one of those little unimportant things that always seem to piss me off a lot.

Hence the rant.

Ah. Well, I'm actually a music major, so I'm pretty constantly listening to it. I often also have to adjust the volume level for different albums. That's the only thing I wish they'd standardize.

Impossible to do, unless you had every album recorded on the same equipment, with each instrument at the same levels as every other instrument, and mixed exactly the same way.

In other words, you dont record heavy metal the same way you do jazz, blues, etc...

I'm talking about the overall volume of the album. Not the various levels or sounds of the instruments therein. Just what level it needs to be to hear it.

you should buy bad speakers/headphones, that way you won't hear the differences.

Too bad it takes EQ/Sound Check to make it happen...

windows media player has an automatic volume levelling facility when you import your music collection into it. it takes fucking ages to do (depending on the size of said collection) but its so worth it. no messing with eq or anything

Because Apple hates you.

I have iTunes because I had an iTunes gift card for Christmas. Pain in the ass to turn off all the shit it wants to start up. I use MediaMonkey and Winamp.

you should buy bad speakers/headphones, that way you won't hear the differences. That's actually really good advice. My mp3 player's not all that impressive, but after I stepped on my headphones (by accident) and had to nick some off a train, I no longer waste my time cursing the player. It's become "Why the fuck don't I get some proper headphones" instead.

On a side note, players like Foobar2000 & WMP can normalise audio. It's pretty fast & you'll never have to mess with an equalizer again. Mind, WMP has some severe limitations, and using it always endangers the OS, so I'd advice against it.

Foobar2000 FTW.
And lo, a prophet came out of the desert and spake, “foobar (http://www.foobar2000.org/)!”

But the people were afraid and withered from the shining light of customisation and control. They bowed their heads saying, “We are unworthy, we shall grovel in the dust with our WinAmp and iTunes, for surely a media player of such magnitude, such scope and glory could not be used by ones so lowly as us.”

But the prophet said, “Nay, it is free my children. And may be customised and implemented as thou see fit.”

And there was much rejoicing and playing of music.

'Tis true though. Trying out Foobar was a fucking revelation.

Yeah, many fail to see the light. An boy, what light! WinAmp had it’s day folks, and I appreciate it for that, but it’s 2007! We need complete customisation and control.

Yeah, I find it annoying when orchestras play pieces wrongly, either, IMO a bad interpretation, or just plain wrong notes (from professionals as well). Like at the proms last year, there was a shocking overpitching of one of the horns at the end of the 1st movement of Bartok's Concerto for Orchestra, it stuck out hugely. Can't remember the orchestra that was playing atm.

But about this EQ and normalisation thing, I've never found it a problem.
