The aesthetics of egg coloring

I know Easter isn't until April 8th, but do you color eggs (http://halleyscomment.blogspot.com/uploaded_images/easter-eggs-786812.jpg)? We always did when I was a kid and we do still. It's fun, we boil up a mess of eggs, get out the dye kits and watch lots of TV while the eggs sit in their cups of color.

It's a Christian thing, of course, but a fun one.

And afterward you get the strangest-looking egg salad!

Yes, it's a Christian thing. It commemorates the day when Jesus rose from the grave, and teamed up with a bunny to hide colored eggs all over Judea.

The Holy Hare!

But yeah, I color eggs. I typically go for the lighter blues and greens, with simpler, understated styles. Then, the day after Easter I eat them with a bit of mustard.

done it a few times, but it's not like a tradition or anything. we barely celebrate easter really.

But hard boiled eggs are so delicious!

Edit: That's a mighty timewarp!

Don't be too harsh on him... some of his followers have seen the light and go for chocolate eggs and other fertility symbols these days.

I always dyed eggs when I was a kid, and still do so some years.

However, there is one Easter tradition I shall keep forever, which is, of course, the all-important celebration of Cadbury-Eggs-On-Sale-For-Half-Price Monday. That's a great holiday. :)

Wow, I got a little Cadbury-egg-headache just from reading that. They should seel shots of insulin on the same display as the eggs. They can be tasty, though. :D

The whole egg-coloring thing escaped me and my sisters. We'd try to get them to be rainbow colored, but they all ended up a purple-brown bruisey color. :(

I can still smell the icky dye smell now...ahh...

I read the first paragraph, and it made me snort blackcurrant juice out my nose... you could put a warning on that, you know?

I had this mental image of the good Christian mom telling the kids "Jesus was beaten by Roman soldiers, so you kids whack those pecans real good. Let Jesus have it, kids!"

300 Million say "color" is the appropriate spelling. The "u" i just extra fluff to waste our ink.

Let it suffice to say that I own an egg-coloring set.

..what? It's a really handy thingy that keeps your egg suspended between two, uh, thingies attached to each 'pole' so you don't have to touch it, but can rotate it and things.. and it comes with many pretty colors and brushes and things.. yes, I'm an adult without kids, why asking?

Okay, there is NO WAY colouring eggs is "Christian," so I wanna know, who'd they steal it from?

I'll give you a hint: They wear togas, and wore brushes on their heads.

You mean 300 million should say 'color' is the appropriate spelling according to regional / dialect affiliation- never assume too much literacy / orthographic prowess. I've seen my fair share of 'collor'..

As someone to whom spelling comes naturally, I regularly overestimate other people's ability to spell correctly.

I most sincerely disagree. It involves lots of chocolate.

Aye! Always a plus.

Exactly why I like Chanukah. The chocolate coins, I nab the chocolate coins from my Jewish friends.

Easter egg coloring and the hiding of the eggs is mainly for the kids. It's something fun. I am atheist but I still do the Easter thing as I have a child (not to mention my whole family is Catholic). Not so much as celebrating the holiday..just celebrating the fact that it is a day we get buttloads of candy and our breakfast planned out for the next week!

However, there is one Easter tradition I shall keep forever, which is, of course, the all-important celebration of Cadbury-Eggs-On-Sale-For-Half-Price Monday. That's a great holiday. :)

Indeed!:D I love it when Easter comes around because then I can get my Cadbury fix! They are the best!

Okay, we get the damn point. Americans spell words differently from the Brits. It has been that way for some 250 years. GET. OVER. IT.

...Who is this Jesus you speak so highly of?

Oh, he was the illegal immigrant the bunny hired to help out for 3 bucks an hour.

I hope the christians aren't right, 'cause if they are, I'm going to hell.

We have. Not our fault if you decided to be ignorant of the alternative and just-as-proper spellings as well as being snarky. Pretty ironic coming from someone who fails at capitalization.

Now how about getting that beam from your eye? ;)
