I was wondering who of you here also celebrates Winter-een-mas?

Which classics did you pick to do the spirits of gaming honor?

I chose SimEarth for today, highly addicting, and plain fun.

I don't think Herself would be too happy with me devoting the whole week to video gaming, but I plan to get in some time on SimCity 4. Haven't played SimEarth in ages, I should get a new version.

I had exams at the begining of the month, so I haven't had much time for games.
When I had time, I played Eternal Darkness though.

I didn't realise there was supposed to be such a day... but I did play colonization today. Those Cherokee raided one too many of my colonies and stole one too many of horses. So now they're all dead. I am an evil, evil viceroy.

Oh please. Wintereenmas is a video game celebrating holiday created by someone who spends most of his time ripping off other video game webcomics. Sure, I'll read Ctrl-Alt-Delete, but screw Wintereenmas, even if I like the basic idea.

YES! YES! Colonization FTW. I remember when I first started playing it, it was years before I felt developed and ready enough to declare independence. Now, I've got several operational colonies, lots of cash, and at least one fortress by 1650.

Coincidently with the CAD's fictional holiday, I reinstalled Fallout 2.

So?

"I live in Australia (or some other place with opposite seasons). When do I celebrate?"
You celebrate with everyone else, during the month of January, specifically on the 25th through the 31st. Winter-een-mas is just a title, just a name. The holiday itself is a celebration of video games. The word 'winter' in the name is just a throwback to the holiday's origins.

I have exams, but I shall be celebrating by taking time out of my busy studying schedule to play Tomb Raider: Legend. :D

I really don't have the slightest clue what is going on here but if we are supposed to be playing video games, I guess I could play Civilization IV tonight. Would this somehow make people happy?

You're better off with Civ III. Despite all the good things that Civ IV did, they traded gameplay for graphics. For instance, and the largest map size setting, five cities decently spaced apart makes you a world empire, I shit you not. In its predecessors, five cities condemns you to the fate of a third-world nation, no matter the spacing.

Sorry, 2K. I'll be ignoring Civ IV.

You get long fine with the Indians, they teach you lots of nice skills... you make lots of goods, sell the goods in europe for lots of cash... the prices collapse in europe and tax rates increase. By then you should have developed two horse farms and a musket producing colony. Start selling the horses and muskets to the Indians by the bucket load. Build plenty of artillery and coastal fortresses and prepare to declare independence. Once Independence has been declared incite the indians to declare war against the Tories. You can focus on maintain a healthy supply of artillery in your besieged colony. The Tories should die - fast.

I plan on playing on the NS Forums for the entire week without once ever stepping out into the real world for some fresh air, sunlight, social interactions, minimal pausing for food, drink, and visits to the restroom. (Loo, as its known elsewhere.)

I have my caffiene drip ready to combat sleep!

To all the others - partypoopers!:p

Winter-een-mas is about celebrating great games but especially the great people who play them - you and I, us gamers. :) So, have a good one!

Call me biased, but I usually choose the English (even though I get flooded with colonists towards the end). The Dutch and French tie second, the former because you start with a merchantman and the latter because of what you mentioned and you start with a pioneer. I rarely, if ever, choose the Spanish; I don't care for exterminating the Indians, and I prefer to get my gold through trade and industry.

I do find the smaller maps of IV to be irritating but I feel the graphics does make up for it. I am also disappointed about the new religion feature as well though. I don't see how it really makes that much of a difference. When I play it is merely a side feature, doesn't really effect my empire at all.

Otherwise, IV it is a cooler Civ III I must say. :)

Today is fighting day.

So today I play Super Smash Brothers (Original)

Yes, it is a fighting game.

For Action-Adventure day I chose Dead Rising.

For FPS day I chose System Shock.

Tomorrow is Strategy day, so Dawn of War.

Day after that is racing day, so I'll play some Star Wars Pod Racer.

Day after that is RPG day, so Morrowind here I come.

Day after that is sports day. Umm... Does Sudoku or Picross count?
