Same here. After the operation, I was so drugged up that I went to take a cotton wad out of my mouth and took more than a moment to realize that said cotton wad was in fact my own tongue. :p

Eek. I feel for you. My wisdom teeth started moving a few weeks back... but then they stopped again... odd... but I am greatful. They can stay hidden below the gumline if they want.

Me too. I keep hearing about people who have problems with them though (strangely enough only from north americans on the internet though) and I keep thinking mine are just going to explode in an orgy of agony at any second.

What a depressing 200th post.

I was lucky, I only had three wisdom teeth. I somehow mutated the fourth one into Oblivion.

My sisters, on the other hand, have none.

my dentist removed my premolars to allow my wisdom teeth to come through painlessly, i recommend asking your dentist to do this, although it might be too late. premolars are much less painful to remove than wisdom teeth if that becomes necesssary.

If you've got any infection (or perceived infection) rinse your mouth with a tea spoon of salt in a mug of warm water. Then take ibuprofen.

Might help...

I think I'll need to have one of mine, on the bottom, taken out. The other one was already taken out, because I needed a crown. The top ones seem fine.

If you've got any infection (or perceived infection) rinse your mouth with a tea spoon of salt in a mug of warm water. Then take ibuprofen.

Might help...Only a teaspoon? I was always told that you should freshly boil some water, leave it to stand in a cup for a couple of minutes and then stiring in salt until it stops disolving. Swill a small mouth around your mouth, spit it out and repeat twice. Do this morning and evening and it will kill any infection fast. Just remember to rinse your mouth out with unsalted water afterwards... though I don't think anyone would have to be reminded to do this last step.

It also whitens your teeth...

I'm 17 and I've had two of mine already since I was 16. The other two are coming in.

Oddly, they're not paining me at all. In fact, they're coming in quite nicely. They came just like the other ones would, just behind the previous last row.

Guess I'm weird. The same happend for my mother and brother though.

Ok, what the hell?! Did I get some kind of dentist god or something? My experience with wisdom teeth was nothing bad at all. I was never in pain. My brother had his wisdom teeth taken out a month before I got mine out. He told me how it sucked and he couldn't even eat ice cream.

Everyone I know who had them out seemed to have suffered.

But you know what happened when I had mine out? As soon as I woke up, I went to get a milk shake. I was never in pain.

Is it really all that bad? I mean seriously..

All I was given was laughing gas and an anesthetic, afterwards they gave me vicodin.

it's better that way. all the pain done with one time.

I can acutally compare, I had to have surgery and had 4 teeth removed... one at a time... with stitches...

so when it was time for my wisdom teeth to be taken out, I insisted on two things...
1) all four come out at once.
2) I am to be put to sleep... it costs more? don't care, put me to SLEEP!
and it was soo much better...

ugggg...I had the upper row ones removed last week. The actual removal was painless. But after that I had to keep that sterile cloth thing inside the mouth to stem bleeding and help with clotting. That thing induced vomiting sensations and it was unbearable until the blood clotted.

My lower ones are funky...they are in a sleeping position and now buttressed against the lower molars. They need surgery....I hate it...I have never had any surgery done...I am considering leaving it alone...

Surgery = nothing to be worried about. Sure, you'll be worried when you first get to the hospital, but then they drug you up, and you're fine. Sure, there is one thing I hated about getting surgery, and that was the 3 seconds I spent concious in the freezing cold operation room. Damn nurse knocked me out so fast I couldn't even ask if I could keep my teeth in a jar. :(

But yeah, get the surgery done. I had a much better experience than my brother did, and he had the guy do it in his office.

I think the trick is to get them taken out soon. I'm 16 and just had all 4 of mine taken out, I had to keep the gauze thing Aryavartha mentioned in my mouth but the blood clotted in about 10 minutes. The same day I had the procedure I was drinking milkshakes and within 5 days I was pretty much pain free.

I understand...but I am still scared. I am the type who hates medicines, tablets, doctors etc. I have a pretty good immune system (growing up in India does that to you:p )...I haven't been to a doctor even once for the 4 years I have been in the US. In fact, I haven't even taken a pill. I catch the cold once / twice a year and that's about it. I just let the cold pass on its own.

The idea of me unconscious and doctors doing stuff gives me the creeps. I dunno how I am going to muster up strength to put myself through that.

I had to keep the gauze thing Aryavartha mentioned in my mouth but the blood clotted in about 10 minutes. The same day I had the procedure I was drinking milkshakes and within 5 days I was pretty much pain free.

Lucky dog you. Mine did not clot for like half an hour and it was horrible...thankfully I skipped lunch that day...else I would have thrown up everything along with my intestines. Once I had the gauze out, I poured myself a mega peg of rum and drank myself to sleep and I was fine in the morning...no pain or anything.

You don't really need any more than a teaspoon, adding more might make you feel better as you can taste the salt more but with less it means you don't have to rinse the salt away which would otherwise negate the point of using it.

Never heard of it whitening teeth though...

No, it wouldn't really whiten teeth because salt water just doesn't do that. Sure, I mean, maybe if it was Epsom salt, but I highly doubt that, too.

My wisdom teeth were making a fuss and one started oozing pus. I used the mouthwash I described and the oozing stopped within a day.

A noticed a side effect of my teeth getting slightly whiter... I brush my teeth twice a day with a fluoridated toothpaste... so...

That's why I put the  in, because it's from personal experience.
