Well, not in person. But I managed to get my opinion on Iraq broadcast on-air by having Jack Cafferty read one of my emails.

The topic was on the poor attendance record for the Iraqi parliament. Apparently, out of 200-something members, less than seventy choose to attend each day. The question of the hour was "How can there be progress in Iraq when most Parliament members don't show up for work?"

I wrote in with:

Looks like our attempt to bring "American-style" democracy to Iraq is finally succeeding. Corruption, poor border security, and a "do-nothing" legislature... All they need is a warmongering president and the transformation will be complete! Freedom is on the march!

It was the last response he read on-air for the segment. Hooray for anonymous celebrity!

Congratuwell done. :)

Sparkly.

Nah. I wasn't expecting it, myself. Anyway, they do three of those email sessions a day and read four or five messages each time, so I doubt anybody would bother putting it on YouTube. I don't even know if the segment will rerun later. Still cool, though.

Dear God, that's an ugly baby.

I'm gonna see if I can answer the second question with my other email. Anybody else want to try for it?

EDIT: The 5 p.m. question is "What does it mean that Sen. John McCain starts criticizing Vice President Cheney for the mishandled war in Iraq?"

Click here (http://www.cnn.com/feedback/forms/form5t.html) for the email form.

It felt great.

Actually, I just checked the CNN website, and I think the show reruns from 7-9 p.m. EST. So if you really really want to see it, tune in a few minutes before 8 p.m. EST for the repeat. I'm not sure about that, though.

Sorry to bump, but I managed to dig up some proof that this isn't all just a figment of my imagination:

link to episode transcript (http://transcripts.cnn.com/TRANSCRIPTS/0701/24/sitroom.01.html)

Check out the very bottom. Mine is labeled "Jay from Birmingham, AL". No, my real name's not Jay, and no, I'm not from B-ham. Despite the fact that I was hoping to have my email read on a major news network, I wanted to protect my privacy. Go figure.

Also, if the transcript is to be believed, I made Wolf Blitzer and Jack Cafferty giggle.

EDIT: The CNN website has transcripts of other email responses that were highlighted on the site, but not read. Anybody see theirs?

How can there be progress in Iraq when most parliament members don't show up for work?

Wait, there is progress in Iraq? We tried to model the new Iraqi government after ours, so in that sense it's working. Our current officials don't do anything either. Even when they do physically show up.
Jason, New York

Why should the parliament care about progress in Iraq? They have our sons, daughters, brothers and sisters over there doing it for them and doing so at much less than $120,000/yr. I guess they will start to care when we have no one else to send over there.
Barbara

Per chance the Green Zone is not as safe as advertised?
Drew, Fairfax, Virginia

The Iraqi government is really just a puppet government; elections under occupation and boycotted by a substantial number of Iraqis are meaningless. The Iraqi government has almost no popular support. Since what they do has no real meaning, they might as well not be there.
