It's even better if you've taken biology and can identify some of the structures in the video. I remember having to write an essay about that floaty blobby thing. And also the big stringy moving thing.

Knowledge is power.

I love the floaty blobby thing! I was so bummed when he didn't get nominated for this year's Oscars! :p

It was a very cool video, thanks, PM!

I love that video. Amazing indeed.

It's far out how complex the life of such a seemingly simple thing is.

Nothing will ever top "endoplasmic reticulum", though. :p

I'm just doing a countdown until the fundamentalist christian zealots come in and start the creationist/"intelligent design" arguments.

I'm surprised the thread got to 10 posts without one such.

It's just music, some piano and strings. Great music, but that's it.

i both love and hate you for that. i recognize about 70% of the stuff that is going on in that movie, but that's only because i've spend the last month and a half studying it.
if it really interests you, try to buy "molecular cell biology" by Lodish and some other dudes, it's a very interesting and complete book, but it sucks to having to study large parts of it.
great movie though.

Indeed. I went to a talk today centered around the process of fertilization in mammals. We tend to describe it as, "The sperm swims to the egg and penetrates it and then stuff happens..." But even those seemingly simple processes are amazingly complex - and we're just beginning to tease out some of it. With all the steps at which something can go wrong, it's amazing that we manage to reproduce at all!

I have absolutely no idea what anything in that video was. Apart from DNA. There was DNA in there, wasn't there?

i don't think there is, there is some RNA being translated, but i can't recal any DNA

here is the full version with commentary :) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NPTFYNji0rc&NR
