The advance copy for the State of the Union indicates that GWB wants to change the way health insurance is treated by the tax code. Okay. Make it deductible -- That's a fair way to deal with the situation. An individual should get the same break that his employer gets, when it comes to buying insurance.
But the shoe that dropped was just too much. GWB also wants to treat the part that employers pay as taxable income for the rest of us. Where's the benefit in that? It's a shame that Bush can't finance this plan with some cutbacks somewhere else. It's not like the largest government in history couldn't be reduced a little.
