I am very much against media censorship but..

What you're talking about is not censorship per se but rather a publication ban, which is typical in cases like this, as it helps to ensure a neutral jury in the matter. This is a serious criminal charge and if the media is having a feeding frenzy with it, this will wind up being trial by media and it'll be hard to prove that this person is innocent of all charges, even if the evidence is lacking. Second, why should he receive special treatment because he's a public figure? If Joe Blow the janitor were accused of the same crimes, his life would be fucked, too.

These are criminal charges...even if the government acted, that would not negate the need to deal with the issue in the courts.

What I mean is, the second charges were filed, the press would have been all over it, unless you are suggesting that the press itself is so seriously curtailed there.

While normal people deserved to be innocent until proven guilty, Israeli MPs were saying that this couldn't apply to the office of the represantative of the State of Israel and that he should step down before tainting the office with the public debate.
