## Bringing a knife to a gunfight?

Then this is the knife to bring.

http://wcbstv.com/local/local_story_022171646.html

It's a knife that can fire five rounds of an unspecified type of bullet. I'm guessing it's .22LR. Ok, .22 isn't the greatest round for dropping someone, but wouldn't this be a cool little novelty?

Yep. Anybody can make a gun. One could go into Home Depot and legally purchase everything one needs to make lots and lots of guns. I think people greatly underestimate the simplicity of the firearm.

But I'll stick to my Poo Cannon, thanks. :)

It's a combination cell phone/email device basically. You can surf the web, send emails with attatchments and make phone calls on them.

They have ballistic knives that fire their blades

And with pagers that have stun guns or cap stun in them, A blackberry with either or a gun wouldnt surprise me.

That particular knife/gun-the handle is pretty thick- it could have .38s in it.

Although a .17 or .22 with hollow points will do a number on you.

Yep, it's a .22 GRAD RS1. Knife/pistol combos have been around for several; hundred years, and in much larger calibers.

Some examples:

(I'll limit that to those two. There are many others at that site.)

Some recent examples include:

The .22 Merriman .22 Rim Fire Knife Pistol

Heck, one can buy the ingredients for some much nastier weapons at just about any supermarket. (And I'll stop there to avoid breakingt the TOS.)

Edit: Oh, and I'll just add that, if I understand the capacity of the blackberry and the new iPhones, my cell-phone already does more.

Except for the chain thing (I'm not sure what that's supposed to be) it's looks similar to a lot of the historical designs.

Seeing as it looks like historical designs, yes, it can be far behind - by a hundred years or more. ;)

(Dangit. I saw a nifty one that looked very close to that one, without the chain, a while back and now I can't seem to dig it up! It was a very large Bowie knife/revolver combo.)

It's the fact that the barrel of the revolver seems to point into the blade, which is kinda silly cos bullets can't pass through presumably solid steel, and hollowing out the blade so they could is, again, silly.

I don't think it works by firing bullets, I think it works by means of creating vibrations, thus making the sword deadlier.

A vibrating sword with a revolver shaped handle? Sounds like a sex toy for someone with a weapon fetish.

The police already draw down on and shoot anyone withing about 20 feet with a knife, now maybe they'll extend that to 30 feet.

I'd say this "so dangerous weapon" is less dangerous than a normal pistol since it can't be aimed and probably fires .22lr.

Hmm... It's kind of hard to tell, due to the colors in the pic. But it looks to me like it goes along side the blade. But maybe that's because that's how similar designs work and that knowledge coloring my perceptions.

I think the odds of a civilian minding his own business needing to fire more than five bullets are too low to justify such an insidious weapon being allowed to be produced.
If you're really worried about it, buy an automatic.
Does there need to be one?
Not necessarily. That’s just how I look at the world, and I think it's an important question to ask even if you don't think there needs to be such a reason.

Fair enough. Aside from self-defense, there's collecting and simply fun. Personally, I wouldn't carry one for defense because I don't carry for a few different reasons (number one being that it's extremely illegal where I live), but I think it'd be a fun little novelty. Also, historically, most knife pistols were used in hunting.

Interesting stuff.. I never knew they existed. Seems like a rare weapon for someone to have.. like a collectors type thing more so than something everyday criminals would try to attain .. since the knife in itself would still be illegal and it wouldn't make it through metal detectors and such, plus shoots only one round (from what I've seen in this thread) they'll probably still prefer the regular hot guns. I don't think the coppers need to get their drawers in a bunch over it.

So the blueberry they were speaking of is a phone weapon? I was actually thinking of a really big berry type thing .. but I guess that would fit more along the lines of a grenade hehe.
